Emmett McGrath revisited 70s folk-pop with visual lyricism and achingly panoramic sonics in ‘Outlaw’

Cali singer-songwriter Emmett McGrath is a testament to the power of lyrical storytelling in his latest single, Outlaw. The orchestrally embellished 70s folk pop vignette is driven by Elton John-esque piano keys which let you feel the heart in every note and enlightened by McGrath’s intensely evocative harmonies that put him in the same league as Cat Stevens.

With lyrics as poignantly poetic as Paul Simon and Bob Dylan, it’s impossible not to feel like you’ve found a diamond in the rough with Outlaw; the way it sweeps you up in the tenderly orchestrated panorama as it traces the steps of a woman on the run towards refuge is a cinematic triumph.

Between his visual lyricism, ability to pay homage to the greats while staying true to his sonic blueprint and the lush reverberations of his sepia-tinged compositions, there’s no denying that Emmett McGrath has one of the most impactful voices in modern folk-pop.

Visit the ‘Golden State’ with Out in Front’s Breakthrough Indie Pop-Rock Debut

The indie scene has been crying out for ingenuity; Out in Front answered the plea for sonic salvation from assimilative monotony with their debut single, Golden State, which may have only been on the airwaves for two months, but the LA newcomers have wasted no time racking up close to 100k streams on Spotify alone with their inaugural release.

After the prelude teases just another twee indie pop single to add to the indie landfill, Golden State shifts gears with a brashy crescendo of overdriven guitars that hark back to The Manic Street Preacher’s earlier records before the jangle pop melodies add yet another scintillating dimension to the dynamic earworm that you’ll beg to stay.

With the Southern Cali sound an integral part of their sonic signature, the trio who met by chance at a tennis court before jamming together and realising they had the epitome of creative chemistry to share with fans all across the indie pop-rock spectrum, Golden State drenches the airwaves with glistening golden tonal bliss, wrapped in a hazily hued aura that almost feels like a second skin when you’re immersed in this instant hit.

Visit ‘Valencia’ Via the Neo-Jazz Pop Grooves in George Bone’s Evocative Masterpiece of a Solo Release

George Bone stripped everything back but the soul in his latest single, Valencia, which encompasses the 00s indie pop aesthetic while pushing it forward with the ardency in the wistful yearning, the colour in the neo-jazz pop grooves, and the instrumental sparsity which ensures every instrumental works with a singular agenda to amplify the disarming effect of the emotionally raw ballad.

Valencia is the first single released by the Essex-based evocateur after stepping off his tour with The Voice UK 2019 winner Molly Hocking. If Bruno Major and Conor Albert heavily feature on your playlists, you’ll easily find space for George Bone’s sonic signature, which scribes itself through emotionally provoking lyricism and easy-listening melodies.

Visit the neon-lit metropolis with LockdAwg’s sticky-sweet alt-rock vignette, These Streets

With their latest self-released single, These Streets, the up-and-coming artist LockdAwg bridged the gap between acoustic pop-punk, synth-rock and classic rock to deliver an authentic heart-on-riff hit that is all too easy to succumb to the raw and intimate power of.

With every progression a revelation and a testament to the artist’s refusal to fall in line with other people’s expressive styles, the level of distinction is only as visceral as the potency of the emotion.

LockdAwg clearly has the vocal and instrumental talent and determination to make it in the industry; by honing the song structuring and instrumental layering to bolster the rhythmic cohesion and flow, their name will be up in lights as much as the metropolis explored in the synthesis of classic and experimental rock styles in no time.

Visit a sonic Shangri La with the hypnotic hues in Copper Monks’ psych rock meditation, New Dawn

The Philadelphia psych-rock raconteurs Copper Monks gave their sophomore album, Potter’s Field, the college radio rock treatment while playing with a tonal palette which couldn’t be more kaleidoscopically transcendent.

Regardless of the swathes of psych-orientated outfits that have joined the fray since the 60s, with the standout single, New Dawn, Copper Monks delivered divinely distinctive catharsis, which doesn’t break the mould; it infuses the mould with spiritually scintillating soul. Each hypnotically hued guitar note feeding into the whirling dervish production efficaciously lifts you higher; when the slide guitars appear, you may as well be in Shangri La.

Honestly, if Copper Monks started a cult, I wouldn’t hesitate to join it; the peace that radiates through every expertly crafted progression is a sonic lesson in sanctity.

Visit the haunted ‘Park of Endless Dreams II’ in Frances Cleave’s ethereally alchemic single

After beguiling us with her Southern Gothic sophomore single, Freedom vs. Loneliness, the Charleston singer-songwriter Frances Cleave perceptibly sharpened her magnetic songwriting chops for her third single, Park of Endless Dreams II.

The deeply confessional single gives an intimate view into Cleave’s relatable haunted psyche while bringing her audience’s emotions to the surface to taste the catharsis in the hazy Lynchian soundscape.

Traversing the pleasure-pain dichotomy through ethereal vocal lines, which sink into the eerie tones split by the minimalist synth lines, Park of Endless Dreams II is yet another testament to Cleave’s alchemic relationship to music. With her lyricality always pertaining to a sense of duality, Cleave is a rare artist who shows you both sides of the coin with her poetic works.

Sung with so much depth and ultimate meaning, Visit performs with soul-striking passion and desire which will transport many minds into a whole new world of thought on Born Sick and Commanded Well.

Visit aka Tyler Burba is a Vancouver, Washington-born indie alt-country/rock singer-songwriter and teacher who grew up singing at gospel competitions.

”Burba continued his studies at European Graduate School, where he is completing his doctoral work on visual ecstasy and synesthesia. He received a Master’s degree at EGS after completing a Master’s thesis on ecstatic listening, which was later published by Atropos Press as “On Becoming Music: Between Boredom and Ecstasy” (with a piece by Peter Price). He received a second master’s degree in Ethnomusicology from Hunter College in 2018.” ~ Tyler Burba

Falling ill and bravely crossing that river no matter what, Visit has returned our ears to a previous time so we may remember the struggle of preceding generations.

Born Sick and Commanded Well from Vancouver, Washington-based indie alt-country/rock singer-songwriter Visit is a profoundly reflective soundtrack to crawling away from the town with no hope. Lathered in so much quality and featuring lyrics which shall widen the mind, we find a cinematic release to soak many memories inside.

Visit the Citadel in Sentry’s latest future bass single

UK-based future bass and electronica producer, Sentry invited his listeners into the ‘Citadel’ in his latest emotionally-heightened single, taken from his upcoming project, The Anomaly, which is due to drop later this year.

Citing Quiet Bison, Porter Robinson and OBLVYN as his influences, the 22-year-old artist makes familiar progressive moves, but there’s a sublime equanimity to his production style between the big percussive breaks. Toeing the line between scene-setting ambience and visceral synthetics, Citadel is a ground-breaking hybrid that you are going to want to take for a spin time and time again.

Riot Grrrl Revisited: ViperSnatch – 16

Central Queensland-hailing punk-rock powerhouse Vipersnatch has unleashed their self-titled debut EP, featuring the standout single, 16. Instrumentally, there’s the bouncing Frenetic energy of The Distillers; vocally, ViperSnatch ensnares with Juliette Lewis and the Licks-Esque vocal hooks. But that’s not to say that reminiscence is all there is to this feisty punk track. 16 shines a light on the pitfalls young women can fall into in our predatory world, along with the incredible freedom we felt that we had before life started feeling like an inescapable late-capitalism trap.

‘The Deal’ is just one of the tracks that feature on UK-based singer-songwriter Kule T’s debut RnB dance-pop EP, ‘Emotional Rollercoaster’; it eclipses the 90s while welcoming in the future of soul-infused dance-pop.

After spending time in the Sony/Columbia-signed band, MN8 in the 90s, Kule T definitely knows his way around the RnB sound. The happy grooves in The Deal capture the euphoria of getting hooked on someone, while the hooks themselves will draw you into a colourful soundscape that vibes with uniqueness, seduction, and soul.
