Post Punk artists may be fairly prolific in Manchester, but there are none quite like Weimar. Their latest single “Marvel to the State” featuring Rose Niland is set to appease anyone who appreciates their soundscapes to come with tangible warmth, personable charisma, and empowering socio-political focus.
Marvel to the State was written as an ode to the women who have fought against the oppression of political regimes throughout history, but despite the dark topic of oppression, you can’t help but be uplifted by the soulful track. Soul and Post Punk don’t often go hand in hand, but Weimar’s sound is an eclectic smorgasbord of elements weaved together in an un-assimilative refreshing feat of ingenuity.
If you could imagine a mash-up between Mr Bungle and Squeeze, you’d get a good idea of the infectiously playful Jazz Funk which is weaved into the single. It takes a discernible amount of technical skill to rip out the riffs you’ll get to soak up in Marvel to the State; giving you one more reason to become enamoured by their inventively expressive approach their sound.
