It’s been a while since the prelude to a track gave me the fear. Don’t judge me. You can listen to Alt Hip Hop artist VÉTRO’s latest single “Check Out Was at Eleven” for yourselves and listen to the dark aural dystopia weaved into the mix.
But thankfully, when you get hooked into the smooth flow of the single, the eerie atmospherics of the soundscape evolve into a slick offering of lucidly resonant contemporary Hip Hop. Check Out Was at Eleven runs through with a compellingly authentic edge that you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. If Nick Cave started making Hip Hop and shared the same smoothly melodic vocals as VÉTRO, then I’m fairly certain it would sound a lot like this.
