Glad is a track which instantly hits you. You don’t get the prelude to decide whether the single will arrest you. As soon as the melody kicks in, the sticky sweet rhythms have you hooked right the way through the jangly procession to the fade out. There aren’t a lot bands out there at the moment keeping their sound authentically Indie, but The LifeHacks aren’t your average alternative artists.
If you could imagine an infusion between New Wave artists such as the Smiths and Interpol matched with a Folk Punk edge, you’d get pretty close to imagining how refreshing Glad is to listen to. The genre-defying hit has the perfect balance of quintessential charm, instrumental mastery, emotive lyrics and vocals which don’t fail to draw you in through the hooks. The sentiment behind Glad is simple, yet potently resonant, a simple admission of being glad of who you are. Who doesn’t need that mantra in their lives?
