Sunset Cobra replenished their venom for their latest feat of hard rock nihilism, I Remain

Sunset Cobra is back with even more hard rock venom than before with their latest single, I Remain. By contorting genres and influences into a ferociously unique high-octane ride through the landscape of rock and metal, the monolith easily sets itself apart in the contemporary music scene.

From the opening notes, I Remain grabs the listener with a relentless intensity. The band channels the spirit of Velvet Revolver, updating it with a serpentine electro-rock edge. The influence of Drowning Pool is evident in the rancorous energy that permeates the track, while the breakdowns echo the tightly controlled chaos reminiscent of Mushroomhead. Yet, amidst this sonic maelstrom, Sunset Cobra finds room for technical, frenetic riffs and fragments of sunset sleaze.

Derek Vaden – Eating My Words: Blisteringly Hot Indie Blues Rock

The sex appeal isn’t the only thing that’s visceral in the swaggering alt-rock single, Eating My Words, from Derek Vaden’s 2022 EP, The Recreational Experiment. The Chicago-based musician and songwriter salaciously straddles the line between blues rock and indie to deliver a hard and heavy rhythmic revival; if Velvet Revolver and Muse had an aural lovechild, it would undoubtedly go under the moniker, Derek Vaden.

The winding blues rock increments are overdriven to the nth degree to give the riotous release anthemic appeal, but none of the vintage blues rock tones lost their bluesy bite. If anything, teeth have been sharpened in this confrontationally volatile release, which was written, performed, and recorded by Derek Vaden’s reverently rock n roll hands in his own studio.

Pretty Creatures unleashed alt-rock’s most ominous arrival with their atmospheric single, It’s Coming

With a Slipknot Unsainted-Esque intro, Kyuss-reminiscent hard rock sludge and a similar rhythmic sense of seduction to Velvet Revolver, Pretty Creatures’ seminal track, It’s Coming, is a harbinger of overdriven atmospheric alt-rock that every self-respecting rock fan should heed.

Primed to dominate the Glasgow alternative scene, Pretty Creatures (formerly known as Dead Coyotes) have blackened their sound, allowing their new transition to coalesce with the dystopia of our modern era. Thankfully, none of their former melodicism was lost to the juggernautical furore in It’s Coming. You can’t say you haven’t been warned.

Shake Yourself From Complacency with Control Shift’s Proggy Hard Rock Hit, Awake

If the past few decades have taught us anything, its that there is no better breeding ground for hard-hitting rock than LA – case in point, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Ali Rizvi.

The latest single from Control Shift, Awake, exudes a Velvet Revolver & Stone Sour-Esque seductive angst while asserting its originality via its progressive nature that runs in the same energetic vein of A Perfect Circle, Tool & NIN. It isn’t every day that we find commercial potential against complete authenticity, but notably, Control Shift is unapologetically the full package.

Owen Hamlin gives us the Green Light in his debut garage rock single.

‘Green Light’ is the melodic psych-pop-tinged debut single from the breaking garage rock artist Owen Hamlin; any fans of The Strokes, The Kooks and The Libertines will want to experience the vintage tones for themselves.

With the inventive use of the wah pedal, we can guarantee that the guitar solos in Green Light hit like no other. Owen Hamlin’s use of brash and kaleidoscopic textures resulted in a soundscape that is as scuzzy as it is soulful.

With his debut album Right as Rain in the pipeline, you will want to save space for Hamlin on your radar.

Josh Who – Let Go: Seductively Smooth Alt Rock

If you could imagine what Velvet Revolver would sound like with a driving Indie Post Punk guitars, you’ll get a good idea of what is in store when you hit play on the latest single “Let Go” by breaking artist Josh Who.

Vocally, you’ll pick up on slight reminiscences to both Josh Homme and Alex Turner, but perceptibly Josh Who orchestrates his seductively smooth Rock hits with little mind to assimilation.

With the intensity of the single, you can tell the artist poured their blood, prodigal sweat and tears into it. Despite how polished, matured and nuanced the final product was.

I’m genuinely stoked that Josh Who ended up on our radar. Whatever it takes to transform a track into a hit, he’s got it. Wait until you hear the guitar solo. You’ll understand.

Merivida – Smoke: Psychedelically Vitriolic Alt Rock

Up and coming Alt Rock artist Merivida has made their debut with their genre-defying vitriolically explosive album “Leaked Transmissions from the Cosmos”.

While each track is a riotous convergence of Punk, Grunge, Psych, and Garage Rock, the best introduction to Merivida’s high-octane spacy sound is undoubtedly Smoke.

With the same rhythmically serpentine style as Velvet Revolver, Garage Punk vocals and the angst which practically drips from the frenzied instrumentals Smoke isn’t a track which you’ll forget in a hurry. Even with the harsh and grungy tones, Smoke still offers an anthemic feel, I can’t imagine how insanely energetic a live set from the Washington-based artist would be.

You can check out Smoke along for yourselves via Spotify. But we’d highly recommend listening to Leaked Transmissions from the Cosmos in full. It’s a rare perfectly curated release which allows each of Merivida’s hypnotically grungy tracks to become even more transfixing.
