You don’t need to be a flower child or some kind of free spirit to enjoy U Gotta Love Being U, the latest release by MonkeyRat – a message of positivity and love that may not change the world but definitely helps in times like these.
Rooted in folk and featuring a league of proficient musicians, the song stands as a singer-songwriter pop ballad that soothes the spirit by spreading some good vibes. If you focus on the bass and guitar lines, you’ll appreciate the perfect roundness of the sound and how they flawlessly intertwine with the drums in a wholeness that I often struggle to find in similar acts.
Led by Canadian artist Anna Iachino – and sung by Alain Apaloo who has an incredibly peculiar timbre, I must admit – and the award-winning virtuoso bass player Arnold Ludvig (also her husband), MonkeyRat deliver such a refined project that, if not your preferred genre, could totally be the one to convert you.
