Sattam – Don’t You Know: Cathartically Consuming Ambient Trip Hop

“Don’t You Know” is just one of the cathartically consuming singles from the up and coming Electronic artist Sattam’s latest album “Home”. Despite the tentatively transient mix falling into the ambient category, there’s still an overwhelming amount of energy and momentum poured into the viscerally textured beats.

The transcendental flow of the track progresses through subtle build ups, yet, the swells and drops create an alchemically immersive soundscape incorporating element of Trip Hop in the EDM mix, to provide that extra kick. The focus of the track is exactly where it needs to be; on the beat, yet the sporadic simple vocal samples add an almost haunted vibe to Don’t You Know adding to the mesmeric allure of Sattam’s standout style.

Nick Passion – brkn pcs: Emotively Charged Trip Hop

Brooklyn Hip Hop artist Nick Passion has just dropped an absolute bomb of Trip Hop anthem. If you’re looking for the perfect track to vibe out to, look no further than brkn pcs. His inventive approach to Hip Hop Rap will be more than enough to separate the up and coming artist from his contemporaries. His Rap bars are sweet and tentative, with his muted non-aggressive style he demands an infinite amount of respect. The lyricism is beyond genius, the meter and rhyme is just one of the elements which makes brkn pcs an interesting and refreshing addition to your playlists.

There are so many emotions caught up within the single from the up and coming artists latest 2018 EP ‘Incmplt; who doesn’t love a good play on words?  Each of the tracks on the EP stand as testament to Nick Passion’s elemental diversity and playful inclination when it comes to composing music. The entire EP was produced by Immrcy who left a touch of Lo Fi sound but threw in bucketloads of resonance to create one of the most emotive Hip Hop EP’s I’ve heard in a long time.

JasónTheSelfless – I Told You: Deep Down-Tempo Trip Hop

JasónTheSelfless is a rare type of Hip Hop Rap artist that steps to the mic to verse more than his own aggrandized introspection. Within his latest single which dropped in April 2018 there is an overwhelming amount of emotion, sentiment and passion which is palpable not only through the delivery of his Rap bars, but also in the beat. To set the perfect tone of melancholy the prelude runs through with a piano composition, preparing you to embrace a pensive soundscape which without any shadow of a doubt will move you, unless you’re dead inside of course.

Around the piano keys is the contemporary kick of 808 beats which lace the track with the perfect amount of attitude and momentum for JasónTheSelfless to follow with his lyrics. On top of that, the track is polished just enough to allow the deep vibes to shine whilst keeping their resonant texture. The Clermont, US based artist clearly has his style stamped down if I Told You is anything to go by, it’s more than a little exciting to see where he takes his sound next.

Timi Tamminen – Generation Zero ft. HUMBLE: Trap Does Have A Soul After All

Generation Zero is the latest aurally alchemic offering from artist Timi Tamminien who seems to have made a soundscape which is almost impossible to define. To create the absolute genre mash of a track Timi teamed up with fellow infectiously talented Rap artist HUMBLE to create a track that may be difficult to in a box genre wise, but God damn its hot. The beat flirts with a Trip Hop sensibility, but the Pop style EDM beat kicks in when the up and coming artist kicks into full flow with his lyrical prowess. There’s a compelling, unmistakably romantic element which bleeds throughout the track which constantly switches up in momentum which makes listening to Generation Zero a fairly emotive experience.

You’d be hard pressed to find another artist coming close to what’s offer on this standout single which stands as testament to the emerging artists prodigal style. I’m ridiculously excited to hear what he cooks up next with his soulful beats.

Beetle not Beatle – Hightimes: Experimentally Blinding Trip Hop Synergy

Beetle not Beatle released his latest mix Hightimes on May 13th, 2018, to say it’s a Trip-Hop masterpiece would be quite the understatement. The emerging artist’s perceptible experimental style explodes through Hightimes which is brought to life by inventive sampling and the perfect levelling of every pitch, that allows the mixtape flow in synergy. Hightimes is almost an anthemically high-vibe mix that would be absolutely perfect to listen to whatever mood you’re currently revelling, the vocals and rap bars aren’t brash and, in your face, they fade in and out without aggrandized demand of attention, instead of being yet another rap lead track, the vocals add texture to the overall resounding sound.

You can check out Beetle not Beatle’s first ever single Hightimes on SoundCloud now, with tracks like that, the up and coming Hip Hop Rap artist is going to see a short ascension to the top of his game. As the track concludes, Beetle not Beatle throws in a playful ode to his self-produced lo fi style, which to be honest, I’ll favour any day over a plastically engineered assimilation of former sounds.

They Call Me Max – Come: An Aural Alchemy of Pure Catharsis

There are very few artists, let alone emerging artists that can leave me breathless within moments of discovering their sound. Come is just one of the singles recently released from UK based Trip Hop artist They Call Me Max. Both the beat and Max’s vocals create an aural alchemy of pure catharsis. His Jazz inspired, piano driven Trap beats create a haunting pace for Max to lay down his melancholic bars. Yet this is far from being a pensive track. It’s hard to capture Max’s vibes that he infuses into his music which is so full of soul he makes every RnB artist sound ego centrical. His playful approach to rhythmic lyricism in Come which was released on March 8th, 2018 was just another one of the reasons why They Call Me Max may just be one of the best Trip Hop artists on the scene.

Bitvert – Son of a Glitch: Punk May Be Dead; but Dark Wave Post-Punk Isn’t

Bitvert must have known I was a sucker for a good pun when they titled their latest single ‘Son of a Glitch’. I can’t be the only one won over by that title. Thankfully, when the beat kicked in, it’s safe to say I wasn’t disappointed. There are very few emerging artists that can hold my attention in a 6-minute track, however Bitvert can successfully count themselves amongst my favourite progressive artists.

The bouncing vibes hit you and give you little of a choice whether you bounce along to them. The track is one of the most immersive Post Punk styled Trip Hop mixes I’ve ever heard. There are industrial undertones, and infinite weaves of reverb for you to get lost within. There’s a delectable reminiscence to bands such as SPACE in Bitvert’s sound, yet it didn’t surprise me to learn that Joy Division were amongst the London based bands influences.

It doesn’t take long before you’re engrossed in the simple yet enticing flow of his lyricism. Garrison Collier has made words his plaything with his debut single I Just which is already well on it’s way to viral status for it’s viscerally vibrant up-tempo beat which flows with seamless progression. At 18 years old, the rest of the Hip Hop scene should be worried about the competition that Garrison Collier is bringing to the table in his home town of Huber Heights, US. No one has ever rapped about Marmalade better than Garrison Collier, with his poetically gritty approach to song writing. Windstil, the sound of two worlds colliding beautifully

If this is the sound that is created when the Old World meets the New, then it really needs to happen more often. Windstil is the result of American Mid-West cool meeting European sophistication, a delicate blend of trip-hop beats and ambient electronica, of space and sound, of jazz eclecticism and pop minimalism. The result is a joyous, slick and laidback song, as they themselves state, “one foot on the ground and one hand in the sky,” which is the perfect summary of the music they create.

Their latest song remembertouch expertly balances ambient washes with melancholic electronica (melantronic?) haunted, lucid dreamscapes with noirish, post-pop depth, neon futurism with subdued and ancient primal undercurrents and warped dance floor heartbeats with cinematic grandeur. Anyone who can do that all in the space of five minutes is someone you need to keep on your musical radar.

Embers Burn Brightly

Woman, the first musical card from Embers forth coming album, is all the ammunition that you will need to convince you that pop is in safe hands, though pop isn’t really an effective enough term to pin down where this song sits generically. Yes, it has all the infectiousness and accessibility that the genre implies but there is so much more going on as well. It has the glitchy groove of a trip-hop classic, the sultry sass of a soul standard and a brooding and considered alt-rock presence.

And that is the joy of the modern musical world, as genres bleed into each other and boundaries are no longer stumbling blocks, savvy artists realise that anything is possible. Whilst many acts attempting such generic musical fusions find that the result is a watered down middle ground which seems to be a musical compromise, Embers instead seem to feel more intense and more focused than the rest and the result is a wonderful strand of dark alternative pop that for all its brooding undercurrents heralds in a bright future for music.
