We already have a contender for trap earworm of the year with Moth Trap’s latest alt-hip hop stormer, whenweparty

If your trap playlists need mixing up with some pounding bass, pioneering flair and almost obscene genre-bending, consider Moth Trap’s stormer of a track, whenweparty, which was produced by Erlax. It almost puts Andrew WK’s Party Hard to shame in its viscerally futuristic urban fashion.

Moth Trap proves just how far we have come from the days when Eiffel 65 was the epitome of rock-steady electronica. The glitchy electro beats mashed with the blazing hot guitar lines and the distortedly hook-filled vocals all prove that the Downpatrick, Ireland-hailing artist is more than worthy of the viral status he gained with his single, To the Moon and Back. Very few artist’s allow their talent to resonate as obsession-worthy. With Moth Trap, it comes naturally.

You can check out whenweparty for yourselves by heading over to SoundCloud.

Scarlett Angel brought in the future of pop with her dark and stormy track, C u L8r, featuring Zēo

Scarlett Angel

The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter rapper, Scarlett Angel, has everything it takes to define the future of pop – if her latest single, C u L8r, featuring Zēo, is anything to go by.

With her sweet future-pop-meets-bubble-gum-pop vocals spilling into the dark and moody instrumentals, which start with shoegazey dream pop vibes before transgressing into a stormy pop trap track, the choruses in C u L8r will stick to your synapses like superglue. Whether you want them to or not.

Lyrically, C u L8r is just as emboldening as Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off, Avril Lavigne’s Complicated, and You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette. But make no mistake, Scarlett Angel is creating her own empowering pop signature sound.

Oberry gets candid on self-sabotage in his trap pop single, don’t fall in line.

From the suburbs of Chicago, the experimental trap pop artist, Oberry, is here with his latest aural offering, don’t fall in line. After a jangly lo-fi interlude, Oberry’s distortedly animatronic vocals appear atop the scratchy and glitchy sun-bleached EDM beats which constantly switch from hard-hitting to fragile; setting the perfect tone for the emotionally rocky release.

don’t fall in line may initially resonate as an eccentric and twee for 2022 track but once the lyrics start to introduce you to the true essence of the single, you’ll find a deep level of respect for Oberry for being so candid on the subject of using self-destructive habits as a rebellious act.

If we are all honest with ourselves, we have all been there. don’t fall in line wasn’t the first single released by Oberry that delivers resonance hand over fist. His previous singles, all my homies hate the world, and parasocial friend have each racked up over 10k streams on Spotify alone – proving we’re not the only ones instantly obsessed with Oberry’s inventive songwriting style.

Oberry isn’t your average trap pop star, but it’s his intimate autonomy that draws you so deep into his experimental tracks. Any artist bold enough to release an album as twee as “I drawed a doggy” is undoubtedly worth following.

don’t fall in line is now available to stream on Spotify.

MTV Mozey is blazing in his sun-soaked trap track, Designer

Instead of making you wait until summer for a sun-soaked trap drop, the luminary hip hop newcomer, MTV Mozey dropped his high-fire earworm, Designer, while the bitter months were still biting to deliver a much-needed potent dose of aural dopamine.

At 19-years-old, MTV Mozey is already proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the Connecticut hip hop circuit and far beyond. Designer is a riotously infectious track that uses xylophones to deliver the shimmering melodies that arrest the rhythmic pulses as they pop against the trap beats and create a vibrant platform for Mozey’s mellifluous mumble rap bars. He is more than worth the room on any hip hop fan’s radar.

Introduce yourselves to the luxe high vibes in Mozey’s latest single, Designer, by heading over to Spotify.

Q raised the reputation of trap with his debut EP, Ragestar

With his dynamic style, it’s hard to know what the Kingston, Jamaica-hailing artist, Q, will throw our way next. His latest standout single, Don’t Talk 2 Me, taken from his debut EP, Ragestar, was never going to disappoint.

The trappy, fiery soul in Don’t Talk 2 Me, reels you in through the sharp hooks, atmospheric production, and unabashed honesty which explores a wounded side of Q’s psyche. If any trap track is going to teach you the importance of creating boundaries and sticking by them with conviction, it is this electrifying hit that draws from across the urban spectrum. Against the hard trap beats, you’ll find Dancehall and RnB nuances that affirm the artist’s status as an up and coming pioneer.

A lot of rap artists market themselves as versatile, but Q well and truly sets the bar with his flawlessly authentic style.

Don’t Talk 2 Me is now available to stream album with the rest of his debut EP via Spotify.

The breaking electropunk artist, PR6TTY E, has dropped his hyper-sonic electronica hit, Games

Since PR6TTY E premiered the music video to his latest electropunk single, Games, on January 28th, it has racked up over 36 thousand streams on YouTube alone; which scarcely comes as a surprise with the infectious industrial trap pop hooks that are laced into the hyper-sonic darkwave production by SXZU.

I don’t say this lightly, but PR6TTY E deserves to be as equally revered as Bob Vylan and IAMX for his experimentally bold style that has the potential to introduce a brand-new generation to electro-punk. As someone raised on the cuts of Celldweller, Skinny Puppy and Front 242, I can safely say that it has the potential to appease old school harsh electronica fans too. The fact that PR6TTY E is doing this at the age of 18 is beyond impressive; what further proof do you need of his prodigal status?

You can check out the official video for yourselves by heading over to YouTube.

The future of hip hop arrived in Gud Cyrus’ spacey electro debut album, Until Next Time.

Mississauga, ON-hailing artist and songwriter Gud Cyrus is fresh from the release of his dynamic hotly-anticipated debut album, Until Next Time. For new fans, the standout single, Anomaly, is the best introduction to Cyrus’ evocatively spacey signature style that hasn’t failed to attract international attention.

After an ethereal prelude that feels like it has just crawled out of a David Lynch film (in the best possible way), Anomaly starts to unravel as an intriguingly experimental feat of urban ingenuity. Anomaly takes the evolution of hip hop one step further into the future with the glitchy and scattered effects that would be jarring if the grooves in the track didn’t cut so deep.

Gud Cyrus’ album is now available to stream on Spotify.

ION leaves his mark as he forges through despite the frosty cold on ‘Jon Snow’

Dodging the ice with his wheels on tight and his mentality sharp from all the possible storms, ION keeps his positive spirits into the good energy vortex and far away from the bad vibes that can cut your confidence apart on ‘Jon Snow‘.

ION is a Kosovo-born indie-trap solo underground artist and music producer who grew up in the mountains which allows his mind to be free and clear with ideas.

Whilst I was always an abstract thinker, I believe that being exposed to the pure environment of nature has really helped to develop my desire to express artistic ideas.” ~ ION

Striding strongly upwards as others stumble and slide treacherously downwards into the rocky danger that can threaten your life, ION brings us a harness-filled underground track that has you inspired to never give up no matter what detours have distracted you from all those goals you wish to achieve.

Jon Snow‘ from the Kosovo-born indie-trap musician and producer ION, is an atmospheric soundtrack that has you reaching high and leaving all the past doubt behind. With many enemies looking to take advantage of your downfall – this is an anthem that urges us to keep the harness tight and rope in good condition – so we can fully flourish and reach the top of any challenge.
