Daniel Ryan-Astley sets a sinister score in their composition, College Brain

Daniel Ryan Astley’s time in professional theatre served him well in their baroquely beguiling latest single, College Brain, which sonically sits somewhere between a Kubrick and Hitchcock film score while carrying reminiscences to The Slumber Party Massacre soundtrack.

On the basis of College Brain, the 20-year-old Canadian non-binary artist notably knows just how to build the cinematic tension and keep it running the veins of their orchestral sound. Whether they continue to compose for the airwaves, films or TV, their future will undoubtedly be luminary bright.

Reactive Armor delivered dark and dirty big-beat-trip-hop from the European underground with their seminal track, ModelA

If you take your electronica harsh, dirty and cinematic, Reactive Armor’s big beat soundscore, ModelA has all the makings of a playlist staple. The European underground electronica outfit consists of the classically trained synth player, drummer, and mixer, Tamas Valkar, and Andras Czimmermann on sax, woodwind and EWI. Together, they orchestrate blockbuster-worthy mechanical trip-hop that isn’t short of panoramic or visceral feeling.

It’s only a matter of time before Reactive Armor loses their underground status or breaks into the film score industry. Their dystopic sound isn’t just massive; it’s devilishly clever and easily on the same level as the artists on the Sucker Punch OST.

Slip into David Taylor’s transcendently light mix “hours”

Australian Electronica artist and producer David Taylor has recently released their distinctively sweet Lo-Fi Chill EP 050392. The perfect introduction to their catharsis-spilling sound is “hours”.

The hazily blissful track which comes with slight Chill Hop nuances may not easily squeeze into any constrained branch of Electronica, but it does ooze potent and organic good vibes. With the warm tones and the transcendently light textures, hours is an incredibly easy track to slip into and get pulled along by the seamless reverb-soaked progressions.

It’s not every day we can say the Electronica we hear serves up plenty of soul, but discernibly, David Taylor isn’t your average producer. After hearing their latest release, we’re stoked to hear where their sound which drips with commercial potential takes them next.
