Swami Lushbeard releases Enemy: Infusing that old school Rock sound

Hailing from Los Angeles, Swami Lushbeard has dropped their latest single ‘Enemy’, now this is one hell of a throwback to the 80’s Rock scene, but giving it a more modernised twist and it’s perfect.

Starting off with the bash on the bass drum and the pluck on the electric guitar strings as the hit on the cymbal takes place, switching to the hardcore tune on the piano and combining each element to create this loud and manic instrumentation. But also having that occasional funk sound to it with the upbeat and lively melodies that flow in and out.

Having a rather gravelly tone to the voice, adding in that heap load of energy as it courses through the sound throughout. Having these infectious harmonies and grooves and you can’t help but love them as they combine all the elements of a hit rock song together and completely smash it.

On Ithenfal’s Wing – Key to Then: A Medieval Medley of Metal

You never know what you’re going to get from a Prog Rock band. On Ithenfal’s wing certainly delivered the unexpected with their latest track Key to Then which takes you through a journey of time and leaves you questioning the year.  The track is a 7-minute marathon curtesy of a nostalgically talented collective of artists from the US influenced by artists such as Opeth, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. They must be the first band in history to infuse all of those sounds together to create a cocktail of archaic madness.

It wouldn’t sound out of place on a Game of Thrones soundtrack even though the vocals did remind me of Robert Smith from The Cure, well, if Robert Smith did Pantomime. Typical of any Prog Rock band, there’s heavy emphasis on the instrumentals which flow with ease, yet I can’t quite help but think the track is disjointed by the slightly sub-par vocals which just don’t match the veracity of the sound that the band puts out.

Dozenz – The Truth: 80’s Pop Hype with A Little Extra Bite

Dozenz is the latest solo project from British singer song writer and producer, that brings the essence of essential 80’s pop to life. His latest track The Truth borders on the classic sound with a contemporary hype. Fans of the genre are in for a treat. His latest track which is now available for download has quickly gained notoriety amongst fans with his unique approach to his music. Inspired by Britpop artists such as Frankie Goes to Hollywood for their playful approach to rhythmic energy and lyrics. Dozenz has created a sound that will almost surely end up just as notorious. He creates an infectiously atmospheric sound, that’s a rich synthesised cacophony as he mixes his unique brand of Hip Hop into the mix

The talent that lies behind Dozens is Saleh Hamed and his passion for mixing trailblazing anthems that are piqued with the essence of diversity. He creates music out of his passion for unity, and uses his platform to spread messages of positivity that can resonate within everyone. With such a charming reproach to music production, it’s hard not to love Dozens.

Annika Brown: Amanda Palmer Meets Steampunk (Only for The Brave)

Annika Brown’s Latest track Apocalypso is a theatrical spectacular. Nothing quite could prepare me for what was about to unfold over the next three minutes as I hit play on YouTube. It’s hard to pay attention to the actual sound of the track after watching the official music video in which she embraces Kate Bush style dramatics. I certainly won’t be forgetting what I’ve just heard in a long time.

Annika’s sound Is definitely an acquired taste, I’m not sure tracks such as Apocalypso will ever fair well in the mainstream, however she’s created an eclectic mix of sound which she imparts her Emily The Strange demeanour within. Even when she’s playing an acoustic guitar in the woods her unique charm is never dampened. . But that’s just part of it’s charm. Alternative music fans are in for a treat with this act. With operatic vocals, doom riddled melodies and classic piano backing track. There’s a hint of Victorian hysteria within her music, which she reincarnates through her Gothic Soprano vocals. The Same as can be heard with acts such as a Emilie Autumn and her signature Fantasy Rock styling.

Persepolis – No Pleasure Inside: It only takes Two

Persepolis are a French Progressive Alternative Rock band hailing from Mont-de-Marsan. Whilst their lyrics are in English, their styling is delectably European. They command a certain je nes sais quoi in their sound. The drummer and vocalist utilises deep ratting drumbeats as an under tone to their delectably light riffs whilst projecting emotionally charged vocals.

The band members Milo Dumartin and Robin Jourdan may just be the best alternative rock duo since The White Stripes. They have a wonderfully melancholic sound that’s highly resonant. The band count Radiohead & The Smashing Pumpkins as their top musical influences, they’ve adopted their pensive style along with more upbeat indie acts such as The Hives, BLOC Party and the Arctic Monkeys. They subtly infuse the Indie Grunge harmonies into their music to create a mellifluous sound which draws you by the violent rage of the guitars.

No Pleasure Inside is just one of the tracks off their debut album Sixty Miles An Hour which is available to download or purchase via Bandcamp.

Colors In Mind Reach Music Peaks

If you draw a Venn diagram of exploratory music, where the intersection between technical metal, progressive and post-rock occurs you won’t find a whole lot of bands, but you will find Colors in Mind. With their latest release, Yugen Peaks they build their sound on a wonderfully fluid post-rock template, one that eschews the 4/4 signature and rigid verse-chorus ethic of traditional rock and instead wanders its own musical journey, often lingering in one lush musical landscape before flitting through more minimal territory, languishing in gentle, bucolic beauty and then climbing dramatic peaks.

It isn’t hard to see this approach as a modern day progressive classical music, the instruments may have been updated from the traditional format but the symphonic nature of the music is obvious to all. And l it tells its story as much through symphonic sound as it does the lyrics, it maybe be a less obvious, less direct method, but it is no less heart tugging, emotive and effective. It is music of the heart and soul, requiring total immersion. Whilst most music contains its own user manual amongst its beats and notes, one that tells the listener exactly how to interpret the message, this is more about osmosis, a vibe to be soaked up and ingested.

Accidental Allies Create The Perfect Union With Adorable Fever

What you really think Accidental Allies are all about depends upon which thread you pick at first. Start one end and they are a synth-pop act doing a spot of avant gardening, start somewhere else and they are an acoustic act building electronic platforms underneath deft, classical guitar lines. Others might think of them more as a dance band heading off into more progressive territory, or a soul band having embraced a futuristic vision of what the genre might become.

The reality is that they are all of those things or none of them, they might be a wide-ranging eclectic mix or a very singular roadmap towards their own musical destination. Not that it really matters, it is only when you try to write things down, to turn music into words that you come up against the limitations of language. Until they invent the right words to properly describe what is going on here you will just have to access their world via your ears and imagination. It is a world of interesting musical choices, mercurial stylistic blends, genre hopping and genre splicing, why would you try to capture that in word form?

Anglo-American Indie Rock Blind Atlas Release “Space Americans”

Some songs make you wait for the payoff and are all the more effective for it. A David Gilmour solo just isn’t the same without the bitter anticipation that drags us there. The art of letting a song build without putting half the audience to sleep is a worthy endeavor. People forget how dynamic the greats were when we fixate too much on how loud they eventually got. Blind Atlas knows how to use silence and let their instrument layers breathe during verses. Their song Space Americans is a performance that’s intimate and welcoming for anyone passing by, all the while hiding the true nature of their potential energy.

When you’ve finally become enthralled in the shallow, minimalist mix of the song, you feel as if you’ve been slowly pulled out to sea by an ever-pulling tide. This is when the party finally starts and you’re abruptly hit by wave after wave of fast-paced rock instrumentation that does feel like a callback to those awesome louds and highs of some of rock’s greatest. This masterful use of dynamics energizes the song in an infectious way. Even when you know the push is coming, you still find yourself settling into the softer side of the song every time.

Frogcodile Release Melodic Indie Rock Video “Paperhouse” Live From The Basement

Frogcodile is an indie rock band with a passion for melodic indie rock. Their music makes me think of bands such as Radiohead or Horse Jumper Of Love, fueled by simple melodies, yet striking for its essentialism.

Their recent release is a live recording straight out from the band’s rehearsal space. The sound production is impeccable, and the band managed to capture their live performances in a really spectacular way, combining studio fidelity with the human touch of live sound…there is simply nothing as good as a band in a room, playing off of the real dynamics between musicians! The youtube pages actually features 4 performances, including the songs “Distant Days”, “Paperhouse”, “Molecules” and “Refractions”. The second tune mentioned, “Paperhouse”, stands as a great example of the band’s vision.

The guitar lines in particular, are really simple, but they have a special way to seamlessly cut through the mix and leave a mark in the arrangements. The drums are uptempo and dense, with a powerful groove serving as the backbone of the songs.

Contrast would be the best word to describe singer-songwriter/producer Rushes. Growing up in a small rural town in Ireland isn’t something you normally associate with soulful cutting edge electronic sounds. The time had finally come for Rushes to fly the coop and explore his opportunities by moving to Dublin permanently to refine his craft and link up with innovators who understood his vision.

In 2017, Rushes joined creative collection Diffusion Lab, who has the likes of Soulé and Jafaris in their ranks to bring his diverse ideas alive. Rushes draws inspiration from artists like N.E.R.D, D’Angelo, Frank Ocean, Radiohead, Jai Paul, Kanye West, Marvin Gaye and Prince but never limits his sonic palette.

 

Rushes debut single “Wild High” droped on May 26th. An alluring blend of electro-RnB infused with smooth wavy vocals and perfectly polished production.

With “Wild High”, Rushes launches himself into the eye of the music industry with the intent of being heard. For visuals, he teamed up with Gorilla – Nathan Barlow, responsible for Soulé, Jafaris recent music videos.
