Jasper Hill – Selfish Valentine: Up-tempo Pop-Punk

How are you going to play pop-punk in late-2019 and not sound lame? The answer is very simple; you do it like Jasper Hill.

Jasper Hill is an up and coming band from Melbourne. Their new song is called “Selfish Valentine” and there is an apparent early-Green Day influence – a band for which, the boys won’t hide their love. The vocals on this are artfully clumsy, formulated perfectly for a song like this. The music is, of course, up-tempo, happy, cute and invites us to dance along. The leading guitar riff works fine as well, the song’s chorus is easily memorable after just one listen and absolutely adorable.

Jasper Hill’s music can’t help but remind me of the era that teen movies dominated back in the early 00s, and how they were all full with this type of music. Innocent, fragile and always ready to rock n’ roll.

I love the vibe of this song. Jasper Hill please keep doing what you do, rock music needs bands just like you.

Choked Up – Home: Riot Grrrl Attitude Meets Punchy Pop Punk Rhythm

I got pretty excited to hear Babes in Toyland are releasing new material. I got even more excited to discover an up and coming band exuding the same raw, unfalteringly visceral Riot Grrrl energy.

Brooklyn-based fascism-overthrowing Queercore Punk artist Choked Up has recently released their latest single “Home”. The bouncing rhythms make it all too easy to share in the same dynamic energy of the track while the guitar solos make it all too evident that that Choked Up is a powerhouse outfit.

There’s a rarely found expressive animation within Cristy C. Road’s vocals which is boundlessly resonant. If you’re looking for empowering tracks to add to your playlists, it’s safe to say that there are few as efficacious in enabling you to harness your angst as Home.

Zoey The White Lioness – I Can: Endearingly Upbeat Rock

Tennessee-based Hard Rock artist Zoey The White Lioness (Zoey Baker) released their latest endearingly upbeat track “I Can” on October 13th. With their playfully energetic approach to Rock, the euphoria infectious.

While the artist usually looks to the likes of Trent Reznor and Kurt Cobain for their sound, I Can has the punchy anthemic feel of contemporary Garage Rock artists such as Fidlar with a slight twist of Pop Punk. You’ll even be able to anticipate absorbing Surf Rock riffs in this snappy sticky-sweet hit.

‘Adorable’ may not be what every vocalist goes for, but it’s exactly what Zoey The White Lioness achieved in I Can. We were warned that the single was as loveable as the dog on the cover art. It’s safe to say that they delivered on that promise.

Alt Rock artist Ryan Failla releases his latest single “Pull the Pin”

Ahead of the release of their EP “Exit Strategy” which is due to drop on 22nd November 2019, up and coming Rock artist Ryan Failla has dropped the teaser single “Pull the Pin”.

Pull the Pin gives you no time to prepare for the high-octane blast of punchy Pop Punk-infused Alt Rock which packs in some serious rhythm. With a catchy chorus and some impeccably styled instrumental breakdowns, Pull the Pin is all the assurance you need that guitar music has plenty of life left in it yet.

As a songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, Ryan Failla is able to bring much more synergy to his soundscapes compared to your usual band formation. Each of the seamless progressions offers plenty of riotous energy. The track may only run for just over two minutes, but that’s definitely long enough to get you excited for what’s to come from their upcoming EP.

Defecting Grey – Cathedral: A Grungy Hit of 90s Branded Euphoria

“Cathedral” is just one of the grungy hits of euphoria which you will find on New Jersey artist Defecting Grey’s latest EP “Run Silent”. With elements of 90s Alt Rock fused with punchy Pop Punk progressions, Cathedral is a track which is sure to be of appeal to any fans of Dinosaur Jr, Alkaline Trio and Get Up the Kids.

The bounce of the chaotic chords may boast familiarity and immediate accessibility, but Defecting Grey has been able to inject fresh visceral energy into the perpetually cathartic soundscape. Expect catchy hooks, big choruses, and even bigger things to come from this up and coming artist.

Alt Rock Artist WTVR WNVR make their debut with “The Way You Are”

“The Way You Are” is the debut single from up and coming Alt Rock artist WTVR WNVR. They may have done away with vowels in their artist title, but in their debut lies all the makings of a punchy anthemic perennial Pop Punk earworm.

The technical guitar progressions and electronic effect feed into a high-octane mix of dynamic energy which should be of appeal to artists such as Enter Shikari. Yet with The Way You Are, WTVR WNVR they’ve made their sound infinitely more melodious in the verses and allowed the chorus to resonate as sticky sweet Pop Punk euphoria.

Seattle Pop Punk Artist The Ultramizers Release their Latest Single “Hey Walk Away”

Contrary to popular belief, good Pop Punk can still be created in this decade. If you need a little convincing, The Ultramizers have cooked up an indulgent anthemic hit with their latest single “Hey Walk Away”.

“Hey Walk Away” was released on August 8th and allows listeners to revel in Alt Rock nostalgia whilst sharing in the excitement of one of the most promising up and coming artists in Seattle right now.

If you’re a massive fan of Sum 41, The Offspring, and Green Day, and Rancid, it’s safe to say that you’re definitely going to be excited in what The Ultramizers have to offer with their latest single. Rather than assimilating the aforementioned artists, The Ultramizers utilised the same energy in a perceptibly more poised soundscape created by instrumentalists who definitely know their way around their instruments.

Darro Invites You to Be Proud of Your Eccentricities and Anger with Their Single “You’re Not Insane”

With increasing numbers of people questioning their own sanity and chastising themselves for not quite fitting into the confines of unattainable normalcy, every now and again we need a little reminder that we’re not insane.

Which is exactly what up and coming Pop Punk artist Darro has done with their latest single “You’re Not Insane”. Before you even click play you already know that you’re about to be immersed in a single which will allow you to confront your own self-criticism for your idiosyncrasies. But instead of offering daunting sobering content, you’ll find an infectiously euphoric offering of punchy Alt Rock.

The track provides all the catharsis which you’d find in iconic hits from the likes of Simple Plan, Blink 182, Green Day, and All Time Low. Yet, the contemporary resonance behind the single makes You’re Not Insane a playlist essential.

The energy which Darro brings to the track, definitely isn’t something that you hear every day, as well as having potentially the most comforting vocals in Pop Punk, there’s authenticity behind the performance. Many artists proclaim that they make music to make people feel good, but Darro makes them look like beauty pageant contestants all claiming that all they really want is world peace.

There’s always been a beautiful irony in the Pop Punk which allows the artist to scream their melancholy at the top of their lungs over a contrastingly euphoric beat, and with Dark Thoughts, you can truly appreciate the way the angst amplifies the expression.

3irty has made it all too easy to make a visceral connection with Dark Thoughts which alludes to how hard it can be to cope with the dark mind holes which we throw ourselves into and struggle to claw our way out.

For the Legion Return with their latest EP and standout single “Thin Air”

“Thin Air” is just one of the expressively poignant singles from For the Legion’s latest EP “Down the Path” which was released on May 24th, 2019. The Swedish Pop-Punk artists first put their deft hands, vision and vocal cords together in 2012, yet tracks such as Thin Air stand as a testament to the maturity of their stylistic and irrefutably sobering approach to sound.

The melody behind Thin Air may be kept simple, but this simply serves to amplify the power behind the lyricism and the vocals. The stripped back instrumental arrangement gives the harmony in the vocals plenty of room to breathe, yet there’s plenty of distinction found within the instrumentals through the infusion of classical strings.
