Royston Vasie – Creeping: A Melodic Renaissance in the Indie Landscape

If you have had your fill of indie landfill, cleanse your sonic palette with the latest release, Creeping, from Melbourne’s most affecting melodicists, Royston Vasie.

With synth melodies sweeter than honey/Grandaddy, soulfully sludgy ennui in the same vein as Dinosaur Jr, sweepingly angular guitar licks that give Johnny Marr a run for his money and a modernist touch as a courtesy of the Jaws and Peace-esque indie accordance, Creeping is a smorgasbord of influence which amalgamates to portray Royston Vasie as one of the most promising up-and-coming artists on the airwaves in 2024.

After releasing their first two albums through Courtney Barnett’s now-defunct label, Milk! Records, Creeping marks a shift in their musical style, which previously oscillated between the garage ethos of Black Lips and the shoegaze of early The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

If the outro leaves you aching for more, mark your calendar for the release of the fourpiece’s upcoming album, Through the Canopies, which will arrive on May 15.

Creeping will inch its way onto the airwaves on February 15; stream the single on SoundCloud.

Fading Out created the ultimate indie jangle pop anthem for the socially awkward with ‘So Embarrassing’

Brooklyn—based singer-songwriter, Fading Out (Evan Bieber) has launched the latest single, So Awkward, from his forthcoming debut EP, Maybe I Thought About You Once, and shared the ultimate indie anthem for the socially awkward.

With his upbeat approach to broaching cringeworthy moments, it is enough to instil you with a newfound sense of humility. The single, inspired by those everyday moments that compel you to run the second a micro faux pas slips out, is just a fraction of the introspective gold forged in his upcoming LP.

With a sonic palette that would complement any playlists featuring Peace, Swim Deep, Viola Beach and Jaws, So Embarrassing would be on the cusp of contemporary trends if it didn’t transcend them with the extra vigour in the angular jangle-pop guitars, which any indie rock fan will register as next level. Fading out even gives Marr & Robert Smith a run for their money with the intricately melodic gravitas in this colourful earworm that will stick to your synapses like superglue from the first hit.

So Embarrassing will officially release on October 17th. Check it out on SoundCloud.

Minnesota-based pop artist Tim Mahoney unites the world on the inspirational new single, ‘We Should Be Shooting Stars’

With a sincerely impassioned call for peace and humanity in a brutal world increasingly tolerant of gun-fueled bloodshed that tears so many people apart, Tim Mahoney sings with such love and care on a single all about asking us all to find a solution to this madness with, ‘We Should Be Shooting Stars‘.

Tim Mahoney is a Minneapolis, Minnesota-based indie-pop singer-songwriter who writes from the soul as his only motivation is to help the world unite as one team.

This song is a first for me,” says Mahoney. “I believe in every word I’m saying. I’m really hoping it just helps unite and bring people together. This can sound cliché, but I think it really needs to start with one person – you and me with this song.” ~ Tim Mahoney

Soaring high with a real message that should give you shivers all over your exposed spines, Tim Mahoney flies high like an example for us to aspire to. He sings with loving energy that appears only genuine and real, that has you shaking with inspired juices flowing in your veins as the door to unity creaks open slowly.

We Should Be Shooting Stars‘ from Minneapolis, Minnesota-based indie-pop singer-songwriter Tim Mahoney, a stunning message that needs to be played loud and proud all over the world as we count on each other to be better together. With superb lyrics that keep it importantly honest – and featuring ear-shaking vocals – that might cause the hairs on your body to shoot up, as we close our eyes and wonder why this carnage continues. This is that vital picture that we all need to paint together, in a calm way that has the guns down and the conversation up.

Finding a peaceful solution will certainly define this generation.

Fauna recollects on disillusionment in pre-COVID times in their alt-indie-rock anthem Didn’t Wanna.

Fauna

With so many big names springing out of the Manchester music scene, breaking alt-indie-rock artist Fauna have some stiff competition but their latest single, Didn’t Wanna, establishes them as an artist worth a spot on your radar and in your gig diary.

Didn’t Wanna was written during lockdown while the fourpiece recollected on those nights out that aren’t worth the Uber fare because the minute you find yourself in a crowded room, there is no place you would rather be but home. Despite the relatable disillusionment, Fauna succeeded in creating a fervent earworm out of Didn’t Wanna. Every introvert will want it on their feel-good playlists.

With sonic angular riffs sweeping through the soundscape that was constructed through influence from Kings of Leon, Peace and Foals along with instrumental stylings of 70s rock and 60s psych-pop, Fauna’s sound in their fourth single hit the airwaves as an endlessly distinctive one.

Instead of crawling out of a mould cast by Manchester icons, Fauna’s constraint-less sound breathes an air of ingenuity into Manchester’s music scene, often stifled by Joy Division, The Fall and the Smiths assimilators. If you needed any additional reason to love the pioneers, they also brewed their own Didn’t Wanna IPA to coincide with the release.

Didn’t Wanna hit the airwaves on May 21st; you can hear it for yourselves via SoundCloud and Spotify.

Wanting others to win: Henny Holyfield shows the world how its done (ft Mistah F.A.B) ‘Win (Remix)’

Henny Holyfield shows us all how its done on his latest release. With Mistah F.A.B in imperious form, ‘Win (Remix)‘ is an exciting new Hip Hop track and this is the story of a man that wants others to do well. This is a selfless emcee that is one of the good guys, in an often ego-driven industry.

With a flow that is absolutely classy and hits the spot just right and a visual video that captures the moment perfectly, this is a message of peace in a war zone year of madness.

With an attitude that raises the game, Henny Holyfield (ft Mistah F.A.B) sends the world a positive message on the ‘Win (Remix)‘. This is an ode to the way music was supposed to be, supporting others and wanting those good souls to well.

Music in 2020 is all about rap beef and creating headlines to drive clicks. This is a swing back to the old school and for this, Henny needs to be acclaimed and admired. Hopefully his message spreads to the youngsters in the music game who can gradually change the native. People dying and getting hurt over music is something that needs to end as soon as possible.
