Old School Hip Hop

CPTime brings it ‘Home’ in his latest high-vibe poppy hip hop single.

Douglassville-hailing artist CPTime has sent ripples through the Pennsylvania hip hop scene with his dynamic flows, constantly evolving style and commitment to keeping his lyricism clean.

His latest single, Home, pays ode to the people that instantly make us feel right at home in their company – regardless of where we are or how long they’ve been lighting up our lives. The grooving pop elements in this old school-inspired hip hop track ensure that right from the intro, you ironically feel right at home in the smooth, chill, soul-infused soundscape.

Home is a major sonic shift from CPTime’s popular Halloween track, Let Us Out, which saw his lyricism go conceptually dark as he channelled Freddy, Jason and Chucky to offer nefarious high vibes. There’s no anticipating where CPTime will take his sound next with his tendency to bounce between party hip hop, inspirational tracks and holiday tracks; high-quality remains the only constant.

Since 2012, he has released over 50 tracks on official streaming services; the most popular has racked up over 350,000 streams on YouTube alone.

Home is now available to stream on Spotify.

John Anthony proves why his freestyle flow is one of the fiercest in the game with ‘Sincerely Yours’.

With his standout track, ‘Sincerely Yours’, John Anthony proved that he’s got one of the fiercest freestyle rap flows in the game.

The trailblazing artist used the 7-minute duration to create an exposition of the grittiest and most frustrating factors in our warped 21st-century society; every line delivers introspective gold. From the corrupt nature of the music industry to the danger of anti-mask stupidity to fucked up abortion laws, Anthony poetically goes for the jugular on many contemporary aggravators in Sincerely Yours.

It’s beyond cathartic to hear an artist touch on so many raw issues in a chilled jazzy hip hop soundscape that practically begs for repeat attention. The producer, Logic, knew just what kind of vibe to put behind Sincerely Yours.

Sincerely Yours is available to stream on SoundCloud.

Anomaly Da’ God brings GUCCI-level style to the airwaves with his old school hip hop revival, B.Y.P.T

The up and coming hip hop artist Anomaly Da’ God paid a lo-fi ode to old school New York hip hop with his latest soul-filling drop, B.Y.P.T (Before You Pearl That).

After a hazy chill-wave intro, the track grooves through the glitchy progressions that have been fed through plenty of tape deck saturation to get their old school feel. When the luxe track hits peak momentum, Anomaly Da’ God’s lyrical canter picks up to a smooth yet rapid pace; any fans of Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye and Dre won’t want to hang around on this nostalgic yet paradoxically fresh track.

B.Y.P.T is now available to stream on YouTube

Daniel AMP has dropped his high-fire old school hip hop hitter, Hit Different.

Right from the outset of his career, NYC’s Daniel AMP has proven that he’s one to watch. His most popular single to date has racked up over 100k streams on Spotify alone; the dark, gritty decadence of the single leaves no room for you to wonder why.

His latest single, Hit Different, featuring Stu Stapleton, is a grinding ode to the old school that carries the same atmosphere as the pioneers but Daniel AMP aptly ensured that his single hits completely different. The trippy grooves, rapid-fire vocals that come right to the forefront of the mix and the slight Latin nods come together as an alchemic urban cocktail. If you thought Snoop Dogg’s Gin and Juice was something, prepare to get intoxicated on this high-fire hip hop hit.

Hit Different is now available to stream on Spotify.

Groove with the slow-burning melodies in Blac Samurai’s chillwave hip hop single, Match (All Black) ’21

With his poetic mind and the smooth, trippy flow to his tracks, it has become impossible to ignore Blac Samurai on his ascent from the underground. Soul Glitch is the second album to drop from the Southside Chicago-hailing urban alchemist; the standout single, Match (All Black) ’21, is a serenely sweet introduction to his dreamy sonic palette.

The trippy feat of chillwave delves into the future while keeping grounded and soulful through the intrinsically humanistic rap bars and slow-burning melodies. Unlike many artists taking influences from the OG rappers, Blac Samurai manages to pull something completely fresh. We can’t wait to hear what he muses next.

Match (All Black) ’21 is now available to stream on Spotify.

Sir Rizzy Royale – The Real: The Ultimate Hip Hop Aphrodisiac

Sir Rizzy Royale’s standout 2021 single, The Real, speaks to the soul as much as it connects with you on an intellectual level. With the smooth jazzy vibes, sinking into The Real is as easy as breathing. When the rap bars kick in, you will already be lost in the amorous grooves.

The romanticism-driven melodic hip hop track evades the usual bravado that ends up in most rap lyrics, The Real strips Sir Rizzy Royale bare, and you can’t help falling for what you see. It makes a lot of sense that he’s been a poet from a young age; his slick wordplay is practically an aphrodisiac.

MMUpClan put melodicism behind the old school hip hop with their latest single, Chico Calabasas.

For their latest single, Chico Calabasas, the breaking 4-piece rap outfit MMUpClan went back to the roots of old school hip hop but took a dark turn along the way. When the beat kicks in, your rhythmic pulses will be powerless to surrender to the minimalist instrumentals that give the rap bars plenty of room to breathe in the intrinsically melodic track that will stick with you long after the fade out.

Everything about Chico Calabasas feels clever, witty, and nothing short of infectious. The magnetism of their vibe is only matched by their talent as wordsmiths. We shouldn’t need to tell you to put them on your radar.

Mobbin101 takes us back to the roots of hip hop with Pumpfake, featuring Shill Macc,

Mobbin101 went right back to the roots of soulful hip hop with his latest single, Pumpfake, featuring Shill Macc. The track eclipses the New York urban sound while allowing the up and coming artist to stamp down his signature style in the rich and resonant tones.

Diss tracks are hardly few and far between in hip hop but the scathing, witty lyricism paired with Mobbin101’s convictive anger make you feel every ounce of emotion poured into this volatile and confrontational track that hits like no other.

Pumpfake was released on August 5th; you can check it out for yourselves by heading over to YouTube.

Corey Morris takes us to introspective church with his latest single, Can I

Hip Hop and old school soul coalesce in Corey Morris’ latest sun-bleached single, Can I, which conceptually allows the lyrical tone to contrast with the mellow, celestial instrumentals. With choruses repetitively asking, “can I live, can I motherfucking live”, Morris expresses his internal conflict as a result of the external chaos that leaves us all aware of how far we can fall.

While the track sonically encompasses the beauty, compassion and soul that we can find in the world, Morris’ pulls you back down from the dreamy plateau that the instrumentals put you on with his gritty introspection that asks the question that is never too far from any of our minds.

Can I is available on apple music.
