Cleveland’s The Vumms impress with groovy debut ”Count The Roses”

Count your blessings no matter what they are. You never know how long it’s going to last for as life has a way of smacking you on the bum from time to time.

Using the gifts that you have to make you blessed is vital too, otherwise you just never know what you could achieve. This is the message from the newcomers on the US Garage Rock scene. Their name is The Vumms and oh my goodness, they are an awesome band. With a great sound, positive lyrics and fantastic vocals, they have it all. After stumbling through some detours while recording, they have blessed us with the groovy-filled gem ”Count The Roses”. This is also the name of their debut 5 track EP that is a terrific listen. The boys sparkle brightly and I feel like their sound is timeless. They could be from the 60’s. I love the solos and feel like I have bright shades on, my hair is still long and I’m jamming to them at a dusty festival in the middle of nowhere.

Stream this awesome new band from Cleveland in Ohio right here on their Soundcloud channel and get into the groove.

June – Natural Love: The Discord of Humility

Ohio based R&B singer songwriter and artist June has create one of the most synergetic tracks of 2017 with his Soul inspired rendition Natural Love. For any fans of the delectability of Kendrick Lamar, you’re in for a treat. The mid-tempo mix is more than just a track that belongs to a genre. It’s raw, human, scorned emotion in lyrical form.

His debut track Natural Love is backed by a pounding and resonant track the ominous synth beat drifts in and out, perfectly complementing the melancholy of June’s vocals as they traverse through his pensive lyrics. The track doesn’t just skim the surface of emotion, it reaches deep into the psyche, haunting you with the staggering parallels which he offers you through the verse.  The humble humility flows through his lyrics to trap you into his torment which he projects into the track.

Throughout his discography, he’s created a truly elective mix of sounds, some steeped in 80’s synth, whilst others he chooses the acoustic guitar to accompany the humble humility which he shares through his sound.

Young Tay Proves To Be The Ultimate Dreamweaver

Remember when music was a platform for something to say? When Rap and Hip-hop was less about fashion and more about social commentary? More than that, do you remember when music didn’t take itself quite so seriously as it does now? If you long for those days, Young Tay is just what you are looking for. Coming on like a berserk Mariachi band meets hip-hop meets dance floor groove he mixes street smarts with humour, infectious backbeats with parody and has something to say about taking it all too seriously.

It is difficult to pin down exactly what he does, so many musical ideas and strange samples are hung on his funky beats, but not everything needs to be labelled and there is something so feel good going on in the music that within a few bars you won’t actually care that you can’t pin him down. In short, Dreams is great, a real shot in the arm to the modern urban and dance floor scene. Why can’t more musical creatives be this wonderfully weird and this brilliantly brave?

Katie Bates Track “The One” Will Leave You Whistling

Have you ever heard a song and wondered whether or not the clap is electronically produced? Pop music definitely tricks us here and there with illusions of the simplest, most human sounds that our bodies can make. The One by Katie Bates begins with a whistle, and at the risk of being completely incorrect, I believe it is a genuinely human whistle. I don’t just think this because of its airy, imperfect nature. I think this because it sounds like a person who’s feeling something. It’s infectious. It’s like seeing a charming smile and catching yourself mirroring the expression.

Katie Bates isn’t shooting for the stars with The One, but she’s putting forth honesty in a fashion that’s enjoyable and appreciable. This song is a breath of fresh air for the morning commute in a world where every song is written for the night out. This is a song that you can skip to instead of grinding to. The song doesn’t sacrifice production quality for a tonal shift that is much needed all too often. Even if that whistle is some sort of electronic mischief, after a single listen, you’ll find yourself whistling for real.
