Joe Astley’s latest release Anthem For The North – a feeling of belonging

“I will fight for you. I will fight for the North,” were the words of Daenerys Targaryen to John Snow (remember the scene?), and it’s apparently what Joe Astley is trying to achieve in his latest release Anthem For The North.

From Wigan, Greater Manchester, Joe Astley is a professional musician, singer-songwriter multi-instrumentalist and radio presenter, who demonstrates great pride in being a northerner in this cheerful tune rooted in folk music. Starting with a lively piano melody, a crunch guitar fills the sound to the likes of Oasis but with a more contemporary style that gifts folk music with a pleasing pop undertone.

His lyrics describe the charm of the North and its people – their power, their charisma, their strength – and how amazing it can feel to belong.

Thanks for this Anthem, Joe Astley! Just like the Starks used to say, I’m sure that the North will remember.

The Fall of Ego don’t hide away with darkly-rocking release ‘World In Disguise’

Newly formed Nottinghamshire-based alt-indie rock band The Fall of Ego have released their new track ‘World In Disguise’.

Drenched in gratuitous levels of overdrive and wrenching with anti-capitalist overtures, ‘World In Disguise’ plays against some widely-regarded sentiment about today’s society. Its frequency maxing and furiously penned lyrics mirror the incredible amount of angst many today can relate to. It’s easy to admire where the feeling is coming from too – our reality is not normality and pretending it isn’t amounts to, well, insanity.

It’s a track that stands strong through its devotion to its unabashedly protestory lyrics. Plus, it’s not phased about being too reliant on avoiding the numerous traps many of its contemporaries might, and so ‘World In Disguise’ manages to fit The Fall of Ego, quite suitably, into an enjoyably mouthy set piece of counterculture. Check it out.

The Escapades releases single Can’t Get Enough (Of Your Rock & Roll): Modernised Brit-Rock at it’s finest

Alternative Brit-Rock band The Escapades who’ve just released their single ’Can’t Get Enough (Of Your Rock & Roll)’ it’s noisy, it’s chaotic and one you must check out,

From the beginning to the end it’s loud and there is a lot going on, this band sure knows how to make a killer Rock hit. From the hard hits on the Cymbal, to the blaring electric guitar solos and then the raspy high-pitch vocals, so much energy and personality blasts through.

By surprise you’ll get the loud shrieks and the thunderous instrumentation, if you thought it was crazy before then you have to wait till the chorus, it’s so lively and would be such an insane piece to play live. It’s so exhilarating and really enjoyable to listen too.

The Escapades sure know how to make a rather tumultuous track and that definitely shows in this piece. We can’t wait to see what is next for them!

E-Fire – Contradict: Postal Electronica

With all the attitude of Oasis, E-Fire takes his aggressive Electronic Industrial style and puts it over a hard pounding mix of synthetic effects. It’s almost hard to decipher what the hell you’re listening to. But, if one things for sure Contradict will wake you up in the morning! The effects on the vocals are a little over the top, and the styling is just a touch too brass for the track to be anywhere near a comfortable mix to listen to without reaching for the volume button before you’re met with a migraine.

There are some elements that I really like about the track, it’s clear that he’s got passion, yet it’s not the right kind of passion, it’s passion that leaves you to believe that the angsty lyricist needs some anger management therapy. I’d love to hear some more mellow music from E-Fire that really makes his volatile vocal style pop against the music, or even just a superior sound production that doesn’t allow his voice to be lost in the chaos of the styling.

But if hostile music is right up your street, you’re in for a treat with this one! Check out E-Fires debut hit Contradict via Spotify now for a truly unique listening experience.

Warbly Jets release snarling anthem The Lowdown

LA’s Warbly Jets have been building buzz locally and nationally since the release of their debut single last November. In addition to being named an Artist to Watch by KCRW and earning praise from both LA Weekly and LA Record, they’ve also racked up spins on Beats1 and KROQ, caught the attention of Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green (who used “Alive” as the official song of its SS17 line), and landed slots opening for acts like The Dandy Warhols, The Mystery Lights, and Night Beats.

Today, Warbly Jets share their second single, ” The Lowdown .” A snarling anthem meant to call out the music industry and its endless games, it’s the band’s way of saying that they’re here, and they’re here to stay. You can stream the new single where it premiered with Self-Titled Magazine or via Soundcloud .

“The Lowdown” was written last year, beginning with a backbeat and bass lick constructed by keyboardist Julien O’neill. From there, the band added guitars, vocals, and additional melodies, along with a heavy dose of confidence and a playfully brash attitude. Inspired by their own experiences with the music industry at large — specifically the empty promises of stardom and money, all while major labels go bankrupt pumping out heartless music — “The Lowdown” is Warbly Jets’ way of asserting that they got where they are on their own, and they’re not going to wait for anyone to give them the green light.

The band’s tour kicks off next week, as they head to China for their first shows outside of the US. See below for a full list of upcoming dates.
