NYC Singer Songwriter

Laura Mock took her listeners from poetic depth to ethereal heights in her standout single, Acadia

After two years of pouring her poetry, candour and sublimely affecting unique aura into her debut EP, home//body, the NYC-residing songstress, Laura Mock has finally unveiled one of the most sensuous sounds of 2024.

The standout single, Acadia, starts with tenderly warm piano chords which echo Nick Cave’s ‘Into My Arms’ before the single veers into stylistically seraphic easy listening territory and concludes following an arcane neo-classic folk pop crescendo which reaches the epitome of sonic serenity.

Despite the diaphanous propensities of each of the motifs in Acadia, the artfully composed, orchestrally laced progressions are strong enough to carry the weight of the heaviest souls as Mock uses the organic reverie within her vocal register to wrap you up within a vignette where naturalistic beauty resounds in equal measure to the divine nature of her talent.

Robert John Hanson is affectingly arcane in his latest single, Blown Away, ft Stephanie Lottridge

Tissues at the ready for Robert John Hanson’s new single, Blown Away, which melodically unravels as a poignant and intricately crafted piece that resonates with depth of emotion and musical sophistication.

Born in the same city that birthed The Beatles, Hanson’s British roots are palpable in this track, which is tinged with the intimate storytelling reminiscent of Cat Stevens’ Father and Son and magnetised by the melodic allure of ABBA, all wrapped in an 80s-inspired production. Blown Away is a masterful blend of influences, carrying the arcane charm of Fleetwood Mac while maintaining a unique identity.

The mournful thematic elements of the song are delivered with a raw honesty that strikes a chord with the listener. Stephanie Lottridge’s rich and emotive vocals weave through the melody, capturing the melancholy and introspection of the lyrics which contend with the loss of dreams and monotony of reality. This depth is a hallmark of Hanson’s work, as seen in his previous album, The Bitter Suite, and continues to be a compelling aspect of his music.

As we anticipate his upcoming album, Sessions, this single stands as a powerful preview of what’s to come from the talented artist.

Blown Away breezed onto the airwaves on the 20th of October. Stream it on Spotify.

Murphy put her jazz and soul into existential philosophy with her latest single, Glitch

The NYC-hailing soulstress Murphy brought in a new era of indie soul pop and added a new trajectory to the evolution of existential philosophy with her latest slicked with jazz and hooked with funk single, Glitch.

Traversing everything from the meaning of life to its origin, Glitch is a deeply introspective hit which infectiously explores the potential of a society-shaking glitch to set us free. If the soberingly sublime single doesn’t leave you deep in thought, that may just be a sign you need to stop swimming in the shallows of perception and start swimming in infinitely more profound pools; diving in with Murphy is the perfect vantage point to take the plunge.

She’s got the voice, a mind that would make Sartre quiver, and a golden ear for a melody; it is safe to say that she’s the epitome of a triple threat; we can’t wait to hear what comes next.

Glitch was officially released on September 29; stream it on Spotify.

Brenna Carroll gives us the best of her emboldening soul in her live single Like I Do

Brenna Carroll oozed NYC soul in her single, Like I Do, which features on her EP, loungey pensive soul-pop EP, Living Room. Straight away, the melancholic poise of the mellifluous single grips you as Carroll harmonically grooves through the lyrics that use stark and jarring imagery to get to the root of spurned affection aftershock.

It’s always a bitter-sweet acknowledgement – that someone will never see your real value and then search for more in someone else – but Carroll added plenty of saccharine soul while keeping the level of emboldening conviction level for the duration.

Dan Zimmerman kicks off Pride Month with his entrancing queer pop anthem, ‘Soldiers’

https://soundcloud.com/danzimmermanmusic/soldiers-001/s-lzWtLLTwKgs

Up and coming pop artist Dan Zimmerman has given the airwaves a taste of what he brings to NYC stages with his latest single, ‘Soldiers’. Penned as an LGBTQ+ Pride Summer pop anthem, Soldiers encapsulates the beauty and energy of blossoming romance away from heteronormative stereotypes.

Zimmerman’s explorations of lust, loneliness and loss fall into urban soundscapes that capture the buzz and the alienation felt by inhabitants of NYC and metropolises across the globe. With the same spacey, moody air as Big Black Delta and vocal reminiscences to Sam Smith, Soldiers drips with commercial potential. Zimmerman is definitely one to watch.

Soldiers is due for release on May 28th; you can hear it by heading over to Dan Zimmerman’s official website or SoundCloud page.

NYC Singer-Songwriter Clanklin is set to release the most visceral ballad of the year with ‘Oath’

Clanklin

NYC’s singer-songwriter Clara Miller brought the same poise as seen in her performances with the New York City Ballet to her indie piano pop ballad, Oath.

Under her freshly adopted moniker Clankin, she is set to enamour pop, indie and folk fans alike. With the haunting reminiscences to the likes of Angel Olsen alongside her palpable mainstream potential, Clanklin offers a rarely found combination of accessibility and authenticity. She allows you to feel right at home within her magnetic sound while feeling the chills that only manifest through brand-new sensory experience. Oath delivers just that.

Oath is the title single for Clanklin’s forthcoming EP. With her tender vocals running through lyrics that document the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father paralleled with her historical introspection, you can’t help but become compassionately transfixed. If any 2021 release is worthy of a standing ovation, it’s Oath.

You can check out Clankin via her official website.
