Melbourne’s Emma Burt gave a fresh take on heartache in her country-pop debut, 10 Years

Douzey orchestrated a euphonic utopia in her quirky piano-pop hit, Hera’s Song

The up-and-coming Melbourne songstress Douzey wore her anachronistic originality on her sleeve when she penned her latest euphonically utopic single, Hera’s Song. If you thought Barbie was a feminist triumph, wait until you indulge your senses in this ode to the goddess of women.

With neo-classic tendencies that lend themselves to the ornate elegance of the release and contrast the power in Douzey’s Tori Amos-esque vocal lines and the rich-in-sonorous-resonance piano keys, the entire single is underpinned by beguile, class, and perhaps most importantly, authenticity.

The consoling proclivities of the melodies have a cradling effect when the piece of sonic poetry is in motion; as you contemplate bigger phenomena than yourself, you will find yourself solaced by the score that unravels as the epitome of empowering purity.

Arlo Boe – Eclipsed: One small step for pop, one giant leap for the airwaves.

The Australian up-and-coming pop sensation, Arlo Boe didn’t just go lyrically interstellar with her latest single, Eclipsed. The stratospheric energy resounds just as much through the catchy, spacey 80s synth pop textures, modernised by Boe’s unique futuristic pop vision.

Beyond the spacey intonations, Eclipsed is dedicated to the people who don’t fall into the category of marriage material but are dynamite between the sheets. A bold concept, but with Arlo Boe’s signature cinematic yet casually cool style, it is impossible not to get hooked on the synthy grooves and her vocal dynamism, which asserts her authenticity on the airwaves.

Any fans of Nico, PJ Harvey and Suicide will find just as much to favour in Ozzie Ostriches Dream, which wears influence from the 80s new wave, shoegaze, and cosmic pop as motifs affixed to the sheer originality that has been soporifically poured into this feat of transcendent avant-garde alchemy.

The reverb on the whispered vocals, the ring of the delayed guitars and the glassy aesthetic of the track all contribute to the intricately distinctive appeal that is sure to see the duo go far in 2022 and beyond.

Partimama has made her empowering EDM pop debut with ‘Mamma Loves Ya’

Melbourne-based EDM pop artist, Partimama, has released her riotously catchy empowerment track, Mamma Loves Ya. With more soul than all of Ru Paul’s aural productions combined, it’s hard not to let the wholesomely uplifting anthem sink its teeth and drip-feed serotonin.

With the well-placed horn stabs and disco grooves around the unfaltering pounding bass, Partimama became the queer-celebrating icon we never knew we needed through her infectious extension of unconditional love. Even if you don’t get it from your mother, you’ve got an unlimited supply from this unity inspiring hit.

Like many of her fans, we couldn’t be happier that she stepped away from other people’s music and turned her attention to her own expression.

The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter rapper, Scarlett Angel, has everything it takes to define the future of pop – if her latest single, C u L8r, featuring Zēo, is anything to go by.

With her sweet future-pop-meets-bubble-gum-pop vocals spilling into the dark and moody instrumentals, which start with shoegazey dream pop vibes before transgressing into a stormy pop trap track, the choruses in C u L8r will stick to your synapses like superglue. Whether you want them to or not.

Lyrically, C u L8r is just as emboldening as Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off, Avril Lavigne’s Complicated, and You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette. But make no mistake, Scarlett Angel is creating her own empowering pop signature sound.
