I’ll try to withhold judgement for the incredibly phallic title of Nathan Degner’s latest EP ‘Cucumber’. Which, I suppose won’t be too difficult given the sweet sentimentality the first track unfolded with. It became clear that the up and coming recording artist has a very unique approach to his Acoustic Folk sound, which, is never a bad thing, yet, I can’t help that fear of the archetypal drove the title track to the EP to a level of novelty. I have no doubt that Nathan Degner is an artist with the ability to create serious music which any self-respecting audiophile would be willing to lap up. The lyrics bring a sobering touch to the three tracks on the EP, yet, the vocal styling which had a touch too much comedic effect detracted from the artist’s ingenuity.
Yet, if you’re looking for a playfully experimental sound, you really can’t go far wrong with Cucumber.
