SugarFüt – Mirrors: Where UK Alt-Rock Hits Its Peak Power

In their sophomore release, Mirrors, the UK’s most promising emerging powerhouse, SugarFüt, reasserted dominance on the alt-rock scene with a kinetic anthem of sheer visceral innovation.

If you’re still mourning the loss of She Burns Red after they disbanded, this Hull-based four-piece is here to fill the void with a sound that is veritably their own. With scuzzy alt-rock riffs and chameleonic progressions, which splices the frenetic with the melodic Mirrors defies predictability. Just as you start to recognise pop-punk echoes, SugarFüt storms into fresh territory with each progression, pushing boundaries with every bar, leaving heads in a subverted spin.

Vocally, the track oscillates between imploring vulnerability in the verses and soaring dynamism in the chorus, seamlessly transitioning to illuminate the emotive depth of the timbre and the dualistic pull of Jack Moxon’s vocals. When paired with the interstellar peaks of their guitar-driven crescendos, Mirrors is enough to leave your heart in your throat. SugarFüt’s ability to riff with the same fevered energy as Thee Oh Sees while capturing the immersive melodicism of Jimmy Eat World’s Futures era creates an addictive earworm which demands repeat attention.

Formed in Kingston-Upon-Hull in 2023, SugarFüt brings together frontman Jack Moxon, drummer Calvin Casey (formerly of Kira Mac), bassist Rory Myers, and guitarist Dave Measom. Their collective history in the Hull music scene and shared love for rock, pop, and punk culminates in an auditory assault that blends raw, emotionally charged vocals with gritty riffs, pulsating basslines, and thunderous drums.

By the time their debut album drops, they’ll be one of the hottest acts on the UK rock circuit. Keep them on your radar.

Mirrors was officially released on August 16 and is now available to stream on Spotify.

Beast Killer lived up to their ferocious moniker in their feat of punk rock fervour, Comet

Beast Killer, the dynamic duo from Cleveland, Ohio, has once again proven their mettle in the alt-rock arena with their latest single from the album Dystopian Now/Dystopian Me. The recently released single, Comet, is a high-octane ride that seamlessly blends the rawness of punk with the edginess of hardcore, reminiscent of The Hives but with a distinctly Beast Killer twist.

Chris Wright (Vocals/Guitar) and Kris Monroe (Drums) have been collaborating for over a decade, and their chemistry is palpable in this release. The single bursts into life with an energy that is both frenetic and meticulously controlled, showcasing their instrumental precision. The hooks are bouncy yet laden with emotional depth, compelling listeners to engage with every beat.

Beast Killer lives up to their name in Comet by delivering a track that is ferocious in its execution. They pay homage to the early epochs of punk rock while simultaneously steering the genre towards an exciting future. The track transports listeners through a spectrum of emotions, from the ominous terror of space to a serene acceptance, mirroring the thematic journey of their album. The duo’s live performances are known to be explosive and commanding, and this energy is captured perfectly in this recording.

Comet is now available to stream on Spotify.

She Burns Red are set to unveil their monolithic magnum opus of a debut LP, Out of Darkness

After a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign that proved just how many rock fans were keen to see the debut LP, Out of Darkness, come to fruition following a series of performances at Call of the Wild, Winter Rocks and Love Rocks Festival, She Burns Red are almost ready to unveil their monolithic magnum opus.

If you Punk n Rolled Jimmy Eat World, threw in a few Slash-esque guitar lashings, the ferocious heart-in-throat ear candy melodicism of Foo Fighters and the grungy salacity of Deftones, you still wouldn’t come close to the superlatively amalgamated triumph that ticks all the right rock boxes while evading every rock cliché.

Pairing melodic-hooked instrumentals that are richer than Musk in their era-spanning influence with sentiments that couldn’t be closer to home, the sonics scintillate through the addition of visceral emotion that is mainlined into each of the releases.

With the sticky-sweet pseudo-emo trappings juxtaposed by the juggernautical manicured immensity, it’s no surprise that Out of Darkness has rendered even the most consummate rock journos speechless. To be fair, even the most superfluous verbiage couldn’t scratch the surface of the cavernous depth of Out of Darkness.

“There is something incredibly uplifting about truth and honesty and having the means to express that, to share it with other people. We’re all drained and drowning in our own thoughts but our songs allow us to feel liberated and free to express, hold our heads above the water for a moment and remember we’re all in this together, not divided at all. This is what we hope ‘Out Of Darkness’ will do for people. Enable them to realise… they are not alone. All of these songs come from a place of looking for hope within the darkness.” – She Burns Red

Out of Darkness will be independently released on September 15th; pre-order a vinyl or CD copy here & and grab the last remaining tickets to the launch show on September 9th via Fatsoma.
