Hippy Creed – Last Night: 420 Friendly Funk

Call me old fashioned, but when I think of a ‘Hippy’ sound, what doesn’t come to mind is an R&B Rap artist and his music about sleeping with women whose names he cannot remember.

Never the less, in its own right, Last Night is an audiophiles delight, which has fans pumped about the Atlanta, Georgia Hip Hop artists sound which is produced to perfection.

Whilst the lyrics are uninventive, the sound supports the track through his slightly linear musings. Hippy Creed pertains the image that he’s more than just your average Hip Hop artist and within his sound lies a movement based around the importance of being aware at all times. I suppose that for someone with such a 420 inclination, that message may seem pretty necessary.

Any fans of Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Tech Nine are in for a treat with this track, under it’s superficiality, Hippy Creed has a vocal ability and flow that will make him the envy of many R&B artists.

2U4U Release New Single ‘HOME’

2U4U is a rap collective with a particularly unique approach. Their sound is remarkably edgy and direct, going for a very organic vibe that has strong ties with the power of old school hip-hop.

The project’s recent single is a track titled “Home”. The song immediately stands out for its uncommonly upbeat rhythm, often not found on modern-day hip-hop. The lyrical flow is absolutely on the spot, with witty words seamlessly making their way through a dense, texture-rich mix. This production makes me think of quality artists such as J Dilla or Jay Z, but there is also a touch of neo-soul and R&B, which makes me think of acclaimed performers such as D’Angelo or The Roots, only to mention but a few.

2U4U consists of ATMA and My Rugema, who met at school and bonded through their love for awesome neo-soul productions. ATMA’s brother subsequently joined in and the group managed to grow further by including another talented performer and lyricist, Badcal. “Home” follows in the vein of the group’s creative hive-mind, highly focused on creating forward-thinking thematic concepts that really serve as wonderful ideas for their tracks.

Dream-Rap? Is That Even A Thing?

Even with the amount of new music being made every day, with sheer weight of collective imaginations, the genre splicing experiments, the fusing and fusion of styles Garrison Carver seems to be on to something new here. Yes, there is a trippy trap beat, a cool R&B vibe and a rap delivery but that is then cocooned in something totally unexpected. Around these more expected elements he wraps a dream-pop haze, chilled psychedelia and electronic washes.

It’s confusing, but experience tells us that is a good thing, expectations are made to be subverted, rules are made to be broken and new musical horizons are their to be explored and DD does all of those things and more. Blissed out hip-hop? Ethereal R&B? Dream-rap? Are those even a thing? The fact that you have to invent whole new genres to put the music in is an indication of just how original this music is and how singular and lateral Garrison Carver’s thinking is.

Shaded Profit – I’m Coming Home: Hip Hop At Its Cuddliest

Shaded Profit dropped his new track I’m Coming Home just 10 days ago. This Hip Hop & Rap was well influenced by his home town on the Bronx. He’s no Baller attempting to adopt some grandiose Gin and Juice persona. No, the talented solo artists music is influenced by his awkward experiences as a child as he struggled with his self-proclaimed Nerd persona. To be honest it was just nice to hear a rap artist that had respect for women.

To put it lightly Shaded Profit is adorable and so is his sound which mixes contemporary pop with lyrics that are actually a pleasure to listen to that offer endless introspective poetry. I’m Coming Home is dedicated to the men and women in the Armed Forces, it’s probably the best Hip Hop track of it’s genre since Eminem brought out Toy Soldiers. He takes a tragic subject and puts his lyrics against a traditional upbeat Hip Hop track that take away the gravity of emotion and just immerses you in the music.

If you head on over to Shaded Profit’s website you can download his all of his latest tracks off his Outsider album now!

Haute Rod – Condo Dreams, Ft. PhllfthyBoiUrg: Beats for Ballers

Whilst I’m not sure the best way to go with a track is to divulge your consumerist desires, the new track by Haute Rod – Condo Dreams has a unique charm about it. There’s a delectable taste of innocence within the sound that mixes with the hope and aspiration, which is in its own special way, is pretty charming. Haute Rod may rap about getting himself a Bentley GT, but still, he offers heart felt lyrics through warming vocals.

Condo Dreams is pretty much your atypical Hip Hop Rap track, following similar styling to acts such as Kanye West and Jay Z with it’s contemporary styling and baller attitude. The track has been polished to perfection by Grammy winning mastering engineer Chris Gehringer. The sleek styling is definitely the biggest selling point of this track, it’s definitely resonating with the right audience, they’re going down as a hit with their fan base, all eager to celebrate the dope styling.

If you share a lust for the high life then make sure you check out the latest single by Haute Rod which is the first release off their debut album ‘The Complication’ on the YouTube. Condo Dreams is also available to download via iTunes now.

Sherwood Rahming Tells Us All About His High School Crush In Laid Back Tune “The One That Got Away”

Sherwood Rahming is an upcoming hip-hop talent from the Bahamas fusing straight forward lyrics and themes with a soulful vibe and laid back groove. In his song “The One That Got Away” he in fact freely expresses his feelings for his high school crush through lyrics which a lot of people can relate to. But writing passionate thematic material is not Sherwood’s only forte. With jazzy trumpet and guitar lines flowing throughout the instrumental basis of the song a cool and natural aspect is created. Apart from this, the lyrics are also expressed in a light way which subtly and gracefully brings out the humorous aspect behind the theme.

With evident influences from the greats of Neo Soul Sherwood Rahming’s sound in “The One That Got Away” explores mellow relaxed bass grooves, natural guitar lines, sporadic delicate piano tones and a deep warm voice that matter of factly delivers the lyrics with a relaxed tone. All these elements culminate in an organic sound that is both enjoyable and quite interesting, showcasing Sherwood’s musical capabilities and desire to celebrate love even in its simplest and most natural forms while raising his listener’s vibrations to a higher level. This young upcoming talent is definitely one to keep an eye out for!

Jimmy Wit An H Releases “Ocean” Ft. BLVKSTN (Prod. HippiHollywood)

Jimmy Wit An H is a rap artist with a very eclectic and innovative approach. His music is direct and punchy, yet refreshingly experimental. The melodies on his recent release, “Ocean”, are glitchy and unpredictable, with a lot of cool pitch-shifting effects and really great beats.

The arrangement is initially sparse, but the song gains more depth and momentum as it goes along. It eventually, evolves into a full-on beat, with a powerful feel. The low-end textures are spot on, while the snare tones are crunchy and direct.

The song of this release is a great example of what happens when artists push the boundaries of hip-hop to create something personal and innovative.

In some ways, this songs make me think of some of the most innovative work from artists like Jay Z or Kendrick Lamar, but Jimmy Wit an H certainly has a personality of his own, which is really outstanding and intriguing – totally compelling listeners to want more!

Nick Notes Releases UK Grime Track ‘See Me Comin’

Nick Notes is a driven, charismatic and passionate hip-hop artist, often compared to major rappers the likes of J Cole, Jay Z or Nas, just to mention a few.

His recent studio single, See Me Comin, is a perfect example of Nick’s lyrical prowess and wide-ranging vocal tone. This track showcase a really kaleidoscopic take on hip-hop, with trap accents and massive beats. The song is also influenced by Grime, with a distinctive UK rap flavor.

One of the things that I enjoy the most about this track is certainly that sensation of the arrangement and the production acting like a very solid “glue”: The beat and the melody are perfectly intertwined, acting as an amazing outlet for Nick’s unique vocals. This song has everything you might want from a great hip-hop track: a tight groove, lush and open melodies, analog-sounding samples; a steady lyrical flow and hooks to die for.
