I Helped You Build A Wall: Driving for Peaches deal with unforeseen deception on ‘Subterfuge’

Taken off the new five-track EP called ‘Circles‘, Driving for Peaches bring us a story that rips the kindness out of your heart for a short while and hardens you up called ‘Subterfuge‘.

Portland, Oregon four-piece indie rock act Driving for Peaches are three friends from the Netherlands, the UK and New Zealand, who tightly knot the type of real music that reaches to your heart strings and pulls you so close, you can feel every sinew of their expression from how weird this past year was.

“We wanted to recognize the strangeness of the life in the past year, living through a pandemic where every day become like the next, where it felt like one thought could transcend past, present, future, fantasy or reality.” Ditte Kuijpers (lead singer of Driving for Peaches).

This is the story about helping someone close, only for them to pull the joker out the pack and run for the hills, not even caring enough to look back. Their evil ways were not seen before as the bright light of love shone too bright, only for it to be darkened when you truly saw what was really transpiring.

Subterfuge‘ from indie rock band Driving for Peaches, swerves into a speeding story that has you shocked and amazed, your mind can’t comprehend how some people take others for granted sometimes. The passionate call for an explanation is wonderfully projected and this is a strong single that is full of melodic soundscapes, that will have you thinking deeply about who you place trust in moving forward.

Brian Perrone delivers artfully sonic shoegaze in their third single, ‘GOTTA GET AWAY’

After their last single, Be This Way, refused to stop haunting us after we’d heard it, we eagerly delve into Brian Perrone’s latest single GOTTA GET AWAY which captures the claustrophobia of a situation that will cage you if you don’t start to push against the bars.

By starting with reverb-soaked synths, an archetypal feat of pensive 80s pop is teased before choral shoegaze guitars creep into the mix and build momentum in the track that almost becomes theatrical behind the curtain of alchemic genre-melding.

If you can imagine what it would sound like if Freddie Mercury, The Smiths, Muse, Editors and My Bloody Valentine had a stunning lovechild, you’ll get an idea of what to expect when you hit play on GOTTA GET AWAY.

Experiencing any form of intensity is a pleasure in lockdown times, but the sonic smorgasbord of alternative culture is so much more than a reminder that you still have the capacity to feel. It is an affirmation that we have an exceptionally talented artist in our midst who deserves celebrating. The Detroit singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is obsession-worthy.

GOTTA GET AWAY is now available to stream via SoundCloud.

Indie-rock newcomers Indifferent Mechanics put their spin on Velvet Underground’s iconic track, ‘I’m Waiting for My Man’

Boulder Creek, CA-hailing indie-rock outfit Indifferent Mechanics have put their spin on ‘I’m Waiting for My Man’ by Velvet Underground. Considering that Vanessa Paradis and Bowie have already attacked the cover, it was hard to see how newcomers could add a slice of ingenuity to the table with it. Yet, they discernibly succeeded with their 70s punk, 80s goth and 90s industrial influences.

You’ll pick up hints of Poison Ivy in the production, Nirvana in the drums and the mellow bass lines while the vocals allow Waiting for the Man to carry the same nostalgic rock n roll edge.

Indifferent Mechanics cover of Waiting for the Man was released on February 24th. You can check it out for yourselves by heading over to YouTube.

Airi’s bring us the next chapter in fine Finnish rock with ‘Tranquilizing’

Finnish rock bands seem to have a certain something – H.I.M., The Rasmus, Lordi, and of course the leaders of the pack Hanoi Rocks – so there’s quite a pedigree for Airi’s to live up to here. And for the avoidance of doubt here, live up to it they do; speedy, poppy, bouncy indie-tinged rock in the style of maybe the Killers, with a lot of Lemonheads ‘It’s a Shame About Ray’, Blind Melon, Elastica, and the Candyskins chucked in. It’s that late ‘90s/early ‘00s vibe mildly jangly rock. It’s catchy, sparky, energetic, and it’s got a great hooky little chorus that absolutely sticks in your head.

Five singles and one EP down, ‘Tranquilizing’ is a perfect introduction to Airi’s catchy little rock attack; with a debut full album planned for early next year, things are looking bright for Finland’s Airi’s right now.

Taken off their latest album called ‘TrusT‘, INSiGHT roam free in their pursuit of sticking up for those who have been unjustly mistreated by those in power on ‘12:34‘.

INSiGHT is a purposeful indie Rock/Metal band from Menifee, California, who make music that is different from the rest, as their mission is to help others in fighting for what is right in their eyes.
