Joe James Lewis – Days on You: Indulgently Smooth, Hauntingly Emotive Indie RnB

Indie and RnB seamlessly converge in Joe James Lewis’ single “Days on You” which is just one of the indulgently smooth, hauntingly emotive Indie RnB singles which you will find on their latest EP.

While I never thought I’d hear a contemporary electronic RnB track which shares reminiscences with the likes of Tom Odell, Joe James Lewis’ single left me enamoured all the same. It’s an impossibly easy soundscape to slip into and soak up the undemanding yet powerfully resonant sentiment.

The London, UK-based artist will undoubtedly make plenty of waves with their softly sonorous, honest approach to songwriting. Days on You has already allowed them to establish themselves as a radio-ready artist, they’re definitely one to watch in 2020 and beyond.

Jasleen – Never B Ur Girl: A Debut of Magnetically Empowering Alt RnB

Up and coming Alt Indie RnB artist Jasleen has made her debut with the seamlessly smooth, beguilingly immersive single “Never B Ur Girl”.

The empowering mix may be slightly moody in tone, but listening to the unquestioning conviction in the Lyrics which verse Jasleen’s self-respecting introspection acts as an inspiration to garner more self-esteem for yourselves.

It’s a far cry from the archetypal lovelorn RnB tracks which we’ve been ingesting ever since someone decided crying “I Want You Back” is a good idea. Never B Ur Girl boasts an incredible amount of resonance, making the single an exceptionally promising indicator of what is to come from Jasleen.

With a debut EP due to drop in 2020, she is worth putting on your radar.

Indie & RnB Converge in Alternative Artist gmj.’s Debut EP “morning breakthrough.”

Up and coming artist gmj. has recently made their soulful genre-mashing debut with the 3-track EP “morning breakthrough.”

Each of the singles is as experimentally captivating as the last. But the perfect introduction to gmj.’s instrumentally hypnotic yet blisteringly raw lyrical approach to production is the single “Children in the Rain”.

Children in the Rain starts by unfolding as your fairly archetypal RnB ballad. Yet, the familiarity which is found in the prelude and former verses slips away and creative ingenuity starts to build in its place.

As the track progresses, cuttingly sharp Indie tones are infused to completely transform the soundscape. It was a transfixing listening experience to hear the discord being thrown into the mix after such a mellifluous start. gmj. is undoubtedly one to watch.

Raélle – Close to You: Hypnotically Smooth Indie RnB

https://soundcloud.com/rebekahlindo/close-to-you/s-k9dk0

If it’s been a while since you heard an RnB single which was so effortlessly soulful it was hypnotic, I’d highly recommend turning your attention to the smooth vibes which seep from up and coming artist Raélle’s latest single “Close to You”.

The melodic downtempo Indie RnB instrumentals create the perfect platform for Raélle’s poised and nuanced yet powerfully arrestive vocals. There are also elements of ambient Jazz weaved into the soundscape for maximal tonal warmth. But where the soundscape truly sets itself apart is through Raélle’s vocals. You’d be hard-pressed to find another breaking artist with such a captivating vocal range and ability to make every lyrical line resonate. The vocal harmonies in Close to You are bordering on celestial.

You’ll have to wait a little longer before you can check out Raélle’s single Close To You for yourselves. In the meantime, you can check out the London-based artist’s earlier releases via SoundCloud.

Trèvon Slaten – Fall in Love: A Melodically Captivating Candidly Resonant Indie RnB Hit

Indie and RnB seamlessly entwine in Trèvon Slaten’s third single “Fall in Love” which any fans of romantically-rendered urban soundscapes are going to want to pay attention to.

With melodic hooks, lush vocal harmonies, and inventive instrumental progressions which will keep you locked into the mix, Trèvon Slaten has created an earworm with Fall in Love. The choruses will stick to your synapses like superglue and the introspective lyrics in the verses carry substantial evocative weight. Wyatt Roberts – Hate My Friends: Genre-Crushing Urban Alt Indie

Indie RnB Soul Pop artist Wyatt Roberts dropped their latest album “Hate My Friends” on January 3rd and made RnB Pop more melodic than ever.

You’ll hear plenty of urban/alternative crossover tracks on the airwaves already, yet Wyatt Roberts has firmly put his own infectiously sweet stamp down on in true pioneering style.

While each track is as evocatively captivating as the last, there’s no better introduction than the title track. The title track will allow you to imagine what Simple Plan would have sounded like if they incorporated Indie Post Punk, and RnB Trap into their sound. And that may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s easy to see that there will be plenty of Alt Pop fans who see the ingenuity which has been weaved into Hate My Friends.

While it feels like Hate My Friends would have been a stronger track if the lyrics ran a little cleaner. It’s still an incredible track which I’d recommend to anyone who is always o the lookout for something a little different to add to their playlists.

You can check out Hate My Friends via Spotify and iTunes.

Satchit – Stargaze: Hypnotically Sublime Alt Indie RnB

If you haven’t already jumped on the hype of UK-based Alt RnB Soul artist Satchit, there’s never been a better time to do so after the release of their latest single “Stargaze”.

With constantly evolving guitar tones against solid Trap beats and plenty of layers of mesmerising ingenuity in between, Stargaze is utterly hypnotic.

With guitars which progress from winding bluesy licks to Shoegaze/Post-Punk cutting tonality, you never know which way you’re going to get seamlessly pulled next. And that’s all without mention to Satchit’s smooth vocals which find the perfect synergistic level in the mix.

So few RnB artists are willing to go so distinctive with their sound. But Satchit’s bold experimentalism more than paid off in this dreamy mellifluous mix. It’s a uniquely beguiling earworm which will most definitely be played on repeat now I’ve got a taste of the artist’s sonorously captivating charm.

Up and coming Toronto-based artist Ryan Flores kicked off 2020 by releasing his most sublime single to date. “Lovesick” is a sticky-sweet Indie RnB Pop single filled with grounding sentiment and uplifting melodies.

While the artist always tends to render the inexpressible expressible through their ballad-style soulful singles, they’ve excelled with Lovesick. The single will offer plenty of resonance to anyone who has ever known what it truly means to be lovesick. The timelessly captivating melodies allow you to explore themes of unfulfilled romantic obsession. Dhyan – Speak of the Devil: Atmospherically Tantalising RnB Soul

With their recent releases, up and singer-songwriter Dhyan has demonstrated that whatever kind of urban soundscape they put their mind to, it is executed to perfection.

“Speak of the Devil” isn’t typical of their other releases. But it is a tantalisingly dark feat of RnB Soul which comes with plenty of atmospheric mesmerism. The tonality steeps the soundscape with a sombre bluesy vibe which isn’t too far from what you can expect from artists such as Hozier. Yet, there are still plenty of quintessential RnB Soul elements to grasp to as the smooth mix works its way through its cathartically downtempo duration.

Speak of the Devil is a perfect example of how resonant, raw, and real RnB can be in the 21st century.
