Hard-Edged Synths Collide with Wit-Sharp Bars in Pretty Blicky’s Alt-Trap Speaker Slammer, RUN (v2)

RUN (v2) by Pretty Blicky (AKA Kami the Wolfboy) hammers through the streets with trap beats that bounce like rubber bullets against concrete walls. The track’s 00s hip-hop grit and warped, discordant synths charge each verse with a dark momentum that’s already rattling the mainstream, proved by tens of thousands of streams and its transformation from an urban underground secret into a speaker-slamming stormer.

Pretty Blicky, sometimes operating as the child-friendly persona Kami the Wolfboy, has carved a distinct space in a less diverse musical climate by blending humour, intellect, and genuine compassion. From highlighting socioeconomic and political issues with unapologetic authenticity to experimenting across multiple genres—culminating in what he dubs “Grunge Trap”—he refuses to be pigeonholed.

‘RUN (v2)’ sits next to tracks like JOYBOY—an upbeat pop and rap hybrid that disguises heartbreak beneath brighter tones—and SORRY NOT SORRY (#SORRYNOTSORRY), a viral sensation with over half a million YouTube views, revered for its sharp commentary and lyrical chops.

Beyond streaming figures, Pretty Blicky’s philanthropic acts, such as sending thousands of dollars to those in need while working at Chipotle, and earning verification on CashApp, amplify the authenticity that resonates through every bar.

With ‘RUN (v2)’, Pretty Blicky forced new fault lines through stale terrain, giving fans of trap something raw, resonant and hyped to the max to get psyched with.

$chaff the Prophet – TELEPHONE: The Cosmic Psych-Trap Track You Won’t Be Able to Put Down

$chaff the Prophet burst through the bubblegum pop trend and established his own cosmic bubblegum psych trap niche with his second LP for 2024, PSYCHEDELIC BUBBLEGUM.

The standout single, TELEPHONE, is an electrifying synth-driven kaleidoscopic synthesis of 8Bit, trap, hyperpop, and Owl City-esque electronica. If the viscerally hued sonics of the track don’t ensnare you, $chaff the Prophet’s sticky-sweet approach to painting a neon-lit vignette of a lonely protagonist searching for connection while keeping social life in the palm of her hand hits hard enough to bruise.

The exposition of how easy it is to get “lost in information, pixels and tones” couldn’t hit closer to home now given the hyperconnected nature of Gen Z and Gen Alpha. The artist’s signature arpeggios lend themselves effortlessly well to the playful yet empathy-evoking production, which shows just how far $chaff the Prophet has come since the launch of his debut in 2019. Now 11 LPs deep, his authentic sound has become so cultivated that he deserves to be revered as a pioneer in his own right.

TELEPHONE is now available to stream on Spotify.

valetical synthesised hyper trap pop with post-hardcore in the vulnerable rancour of her latest release, attached

valetical has stormed into the alt-rock sphere with the innovatively cultivated debut EP, solitary, which melds post-hardcore rancour with elements of trap and hyper pop, to delicious, disquiet, distinctive effect.

With vulnerable vocal lines bleeding into the tumultuously infectious production, you can’t help but lean into the volatility that courses through the standout single, attached. For quieter reflections with the release, the EP also features a stripped-down version of the single, which reveals the evocative ingenuity within the lyrical lines, which won’t fail to strike all the right evocative notes.

After starting her career in 2018 as a satirical meme rapper who never shied away from cringey territory, the 14-year-old transgender artist and self-taught producer is making serious waves with her honed and already matured signature Expop (experimental-pop) sound. Solitary is the perfect exhibition of her ability to explore darker themes; it holds no prisoners while narrating the raw emotions a break-up can leave you to contend with as you traverse a surreal aftermath of affection.

2burbo created a hyper pop-trap hit of hope for the masses with “just might save the world”

Aural originator 2burbo poured a potent shot of optimism into his standout single, just might save the world, which rips through every genre known to man to create a hyper hit of hope for the masses.

The 8-bit videogame synthetics around the trap and pop elements allowed the futuristically-inspired experimentalist to pair suitable sonics around his declaration of “hey, I just might save the world”. With the euphoria spilling from the short and colourfully sweet single, if anyone has what it takes to put our disillusioned world back on track, it is the Wisconsin-based artist who started operating under the moniker 2burbo in 2001.

Under the influence of everyone from Crystal Castles to Bowie to Prince to Steel Panther, it is no surprise that 2burbo was able to infuse so much distinction in his vibrant sonic signature.

just might save the world is available to stream on Spotify.
