Before making his solo debut, Margate, UK-based hip hop artist, Elliot Danger Kid worked alongside the likes of Sean Paul, Little Mix, Take That and Clean Bandit. Marcus Brookins uses gospel for wisdom and blues for rhythm in their latest RnB soul track ‘Made Man?’

With gospel feeding into their nuanced lyricism and old school blues weaving into their RnB grooves, each of Marcus Brookins’ tracks is a smorgasbord of soul, that goes much further than offering tonal comfort.

The perfect introduction to their connectable style is the lead track ‘Made Man?’ from their 2021 release, ‘Roof Top Sessions’. The imagery which Marcus Brookins can conjure with their enlightened and humbled lyricism is animated by their soft vocal timbre which is never imposing. Instead, Made Man? is a gravitas-filled release that keeps drawing you in and allowing you to pick out new wisdom with each hit.

Made Man? Is now available to stream via Spotify.

Jarred Allstar has unleashed their soulfully animated hip hop single ‘Get Up’ featuring M. Davina Boyd

https://open.spotify.com/track/0rBSqw9hspOitrN5pKbcRJ&si=49de577503c3482

Up and coming rap artist, Jarred Allstar describes himself as ‘born in the hood & raised in the church’, the lead single, ‘Get Up’ from their latest album ‘The Gift and the Calling 2’ allows you to appreciate his gritty gospel-inspired soulful grooves.

To supercharge Get Up with celestial vibes, Jarred Allstar collaborated with M. Davina Boyd who brought a soulful duality to the single. With her old-school soul vocals layering over Jarred’s high-vibe rap bars, the energy which Get Up contains is infectious.

Plenty of rap artists boasts an energetic sound, but with only a dash of hyperbole, the NYC-hailing artist could raise the dead with their animated approach to contemporary hip hop.

Get Up is available to stream on all platforms via this link.

cp howes plays the ‘Situational Worldwide Blues’

cp howes

Wisconsin-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, cp howes, lyrically captured the monotony of a lockdown lifestyle while freeing us from it with his liberatingly soulful infusion of Blues, RnB and Gospel in their latest single ‘Situational Worldwide Blues’.

‘situational worldwide blues’ sounds like it should be a paradox, the clever juxtaposition drives home the devastatingly unifying reality of our lives while refusing the listener to be saddened by it. The honkytonk piano, shimmering organ wails and the unique acoustics of a cigar-box-6-string guitar ensure that nothing but good vibes are transmitted on the airwaves through Situational Worldwide Blues.

Cam Be – Right Now (Feat. Neak and Sam Trump)

https://soundcloud.com/cam-be/06-cam-be-right-now-master?in=cam-be/sets/summer-in-september-masters

If a trio of well-regarded collaborative albums (2007’s ‘Wake Up’, ‘Rebirth’ in 2010, and ‘Be Free’ in 2015), and a first solo album (2018’s ‘7 Steps To 7’) as an accompaniment to your own photographic exhibition isn’t achievement enough, how about being an Emmy Award-winning director? Well, it seems world domination isn’t enough for Nu-Soul artist Cam Be, now returning with his second solo album ‘Summer In September’, from which new single ‘Right Now’ is taken.

‘Jazzy soulful hip-hop funk’ isn’t really a genre in itself, but with Cam Be’s groove and the collaborative input of Neak and Sam Trump (including some absolutely salacious trumpet work liberally sprinkled across the beats), it really should be.

Trump’s horn adds some vibrant, jazzy colour to the piano and funk bass, while the collaboration of Neak (son of one-quarter of R&B/Soul/Gospel legends The Kelly Brothers’ Robert Kelly) adds some additional hip hop grind and flow to Cam Be’s already smooth and soulful rap.

‘Right Now’ really is top drawer soulful hip hop with some serious jazz-funk undertones, and a perfect introduction to the just-released ‘Summer In September’. Check out ‘Right Now’ on Soundcloud now, and follow Cam Be, and find ‘Summer In September’, on Facebook or here.

‘Sexy and smouldering’ – Aundre Raashad really is gonna Love You Better (Feat. Aundre’a Lynnette)

Aundre Raashad started his musical career at the tender age of 11, singing in a male gospel quartet, and that understanding of the roots of gospel and the dynamics of placing together overlapping, shared vocal arrangements stand him in good stead here with this gorgeous piece of soul-driven, lightly jazz-influenced R&B alongside collaborator Aundre’a Lynnette.

Lynnette’s delicious, sultry voice sits perfectly alongside Raashad’s smooth groove vocal and laid back, chilled beats, the restrained and tasteful guitar licks filling the space with a delightfully rounded-yet-trebly blues-soul tone and allowing the piano swells and flourishes and seductively funky bassline to carry the song.

While Raashad’s first single, the more hip hop styled ‘Student Loans’, might have brought some notable recognition on its release last year, ‘Love You Better’, from Raashad’s debut album ‘Thank You For Your Time’ (which has already notched up an impressive one million streams in its first six months of release, an impressive as hell set of stats for an indie artist, and which also includes ‘Student Loans’), is perfect, mature, soulful smoky evening music. This is the kind of romantic chilled soul track that’s both modern and cutting edge, in the style of D’Angelo’s ‘Brown Sugar’ or ‘Lady’ or Raphael Saadiq’s ‘Sometimes’, yet at the same time drawing on the vibe and feel of the old-school footsteps of great artists like Al Green, Bobby Womack, or Marvin Gaye. It’s sexy and smouldering, for sure, but it’s got groove and taste coming out of every pore; Aundre Raashad really DOES do it better.

Jeremy Sullivan offers a flash of Frisco cool with their latest release ‘Holiday’

Take one part old-school crooner, one part gospel choir, and ten parts blazing hip hop anthem, mix liberally, sprinkle with some poetic lyrical magic, and add a dash of summery pop, and you end up – after liberally baking, of course – with Jeremy Sullivan’s ‘Holiday’.

San Francisco based, and definitively adding a flash of Frisco cool, with ‘Holiday’ Sullivan mixes rap and hip hop with some gospel choir soul and a little bit of old fashioned R&B to produce a track which – like his hometown – effortlessly crosses over boundaries, mixing and merging and enticing everyone in in true San Francisco inclusive style.

Marcus Brookins – So Will I: Resoundingly Visceral Pop Rock

The amount of conviction found in the title to Marcus Brookins’ latest Pop Rock single “So Will I” is a drop in the ocean to what is in store for you if you hit play on this compelling feat of Christian & Gospel.

The thought-evoking lyrics, the sheer sincerity of the vocal delivery, and resounding genre-transcending instrumental arrangement which defies the concept of genres will leave you arrested at each progressive evolution in the soundscape. And those are just a few of the reasons why you should embark on the epic aural journey this 7-minute track will take you on.

I can guarantee your soul will feel lighter by the time you get to the outro. It’s not only instrumental build-ups which you’ll experience as So Will I progresses. The emotion consistently amplifies before leaving you with the more quiescent melodic instrumental fills to give the lyrics chance to truly resonate. Radio-Ready tracks don’t really come much more powerful than this.
