Funk Hip Hop

It’s all bells and no whistles in Roman Gastelum’s ingenuitive hip-hop track, Pavlov’s Dogs

After a bell ring in the intro to pay a conceptual nod to the iconic conditioning experiment, Roman Gastelum moves straight in with an amalgam of funk grooves, jazzy timbres, and hip-hop beats in his standout single, Pavlov’s Dogs taken from his debut LP, EQlibrium.

With the single and LP title, we probably don’t need to tell you that the LA-based bassist, vocalist, lyricist, and composer is an intellectual cut above the rest. In fact, if there were any more genius touches to this release, Roman Gastelum’s door would be blown off its hinges after an army of sapiophiles came knocking. But it is far from just pretentious art over substance.

The sublime sonic atmosphere conjured around the bruisingly clever bars by the artist who received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from the Musicians Institute in LA ensured that even on the 100th listen, you’ll take something new from Pavlov’s Dogs. As the cherry on the urban alchemist cake, the spacey sci-fi surrealism towards the outro is a lesson in experimental scintillation.

Pavlov’s Dogs is now available to stream on Spotify with the rest of the EQlibrium LP which dropped on September 29.

Ride the funk-soaked tilt-a-whirl that is November Criminal’s latest alt-hip-hop single, Bouncing Back

Psych Rock and Hip-Hop rendezvoused around monocultural mould-smashing funk flavours and orchestral motifs in the latest standout feat of elevated experimentalism from the alternative multi-instrumentalist and producer November Criminal.

His latest album, Scrambled Eggs Vol. III, puts the assumption that out-there innovation always has to smack with pretension to bed and tucked it up tight in the groove pockets in the lead single, Bouncing Back.

Depicting it through words alone could never do the exhilarating aura justice; from the first progression, you will feel your mood rise with the ever-ascending notes that reach the pinnacle of high-vibe hip hop. In my book, not all too many experimental artists can stand against the creative tenacity of Mike Patton; November Criminal is enough to make even his most Avant-Garde creations resonate as pedestrian. Frankly, I’m obsessed and entirely convinced anyone with a functional soul will be too.

SwifStyle lets you revisit the good times with their standout Funk-driven Hip Hop track “Throwback”

https://open.spotify.com/track/0u76ZxVRqnhVKahw76qlLD

The standout single Throwback from breaking Alt Hip Hop artist SwifStyle’s latest album “The Renaissance Movement, Phase 1” serves up an infectiously adrenalizing dose of Funk and Soul. It almost makes Daft Punk’s tracks sound flat.

Throwback may aid nostalgia by catapulting you back to the time when Disco and Funk were King. But the vibrantly eclectic approach to production ensured that Throwback is as fresh as Alt Hip Hop comes.

Expect killer acoustic basslines, sensually charismatic vibing vocals, and electrically-charged melodies which will stick to your synapses long after the track has faded to a close. It’s not every day we come across a track with such visceral soul and connectable expressive passion. Don’t hang around getting SwifStyle on your radar. They won’t be up and coming for long.

You can check out Throwback along with the rest of SwifStyle’s album for yourselves by heading over to Spotify now.
