GLASS EYE – PRAYERS: Salaciously Ethereal Alt-Rock

With vocals that hit the high notes with the same precision as Matt Bellamy, the sex appeal of Deftones and classic rock licks that come with an ethereally evocative twist, it’s hard not to expect big things to come from GLASS EYE with the release of their album ‘SOMEWHERE, NOWHERE’.

PRAYERS is the perfect introduction to their sound that is so much more than an aural crumble of prominent bands that we’ve come to love across the decades. It’s a delectable invitation to witness the US-based powerhouse’s visceral authenticity that will appeal to anyone who likes their alt-rock to come with rhythmic salacious chills.

PRAYERS is just one of the singles that feature on their forthcoming album ‘SOMEWHERE, NOWHERE’, which is due for release on June 10th.

Alt 90s Meets 00s Pop Punk in Stopnowstartagain’s fuzzed up single ‘Liplock’

Blending 90’s/00’s alt-pop/punk with some tidy guitar work and pushing, urgent drums comes ‘Liplock’, the debut single from Stopnowstartagain; swamped in overdriven, distorted guitar, the track takes its cues from the guitar-led indie of Dinosaur Jr., Husker Du, and Bob Mould’s follow-up project Sugar, all vocal harmonies and catchy pop sensibilities over Superfuzz pedals and Tube Screamers delivered into the front end of cooking amps.

It works, too – catchy pop-rock vocals, chiming picked single-note guitar lines, and those layered swathes of distortion; it’s one of those sounds you didn’t realise how much you missed until you heard it all over again; I’m gonna go and dig out ‘Bug’, ‘Green Mind’, ‘Copper Blue’, or ‘Beaster’ now, too. Cracking stuff.

Quentel the Cryptid – Ghost Trap: Obsession-Worthy Dark Alt-Rock

When the prelude to a previously unheard track demands maximum volume, you know you’ve just stumbled across a gem, which is exactly what happened when we dove into the cataclysmically superlative single ‘Ghost Trap’ by Alt-Rock artist Quentel the Cryptid.

Fans of the darker side of the Alt 90s sound will definitely want to indulge in Ghost Trap which offers the same atmospheric effects as Cradle of Filth, the same progressive momentum as Porcupine Tree and vocals carrying the cutting reminiscence of Brian Molko. But that isn’t where the dynamism ends, the heavy use of psychedelically-laced synths allowed Quentel the Cryptid to well and truly stamp down their ensnaring sonic signature sound in Ghost Track.

It’s an obsession worthy track from the first hit.

It was only a matter of time until an alt-rock artist simultaneously exuding influence from Sigur Ros and At the Drive caught our distinction-seeking-attention. The latest progressive post-rock hit ‘an offering.’ from ourfarthers. has left us ensnared.

Admitting that tracks by emo artists appease your angsty soul may be met with all manner of snobby pretension from insufferable aficionados, but an offering. isn’t a track easily torn apart. Maturity can be hard to find in tracks which deliver burning unbridled emotion, but discernibly, an offering. is the needle in the evocative haystack.

With quiescently melodic increments sidled next to rip-roaring breakdowns when all restraint is thrown away with visceral abandon in sonically anthemic style, an offering. is enough to make your soul quiver.

Odd Ones Out made a defiantly grungy debut with their sludgy Alt Rock hit “I’ll Be Fine”

Many artists can only dream of amassing the same amount of hype around their debut release as Odd Ones Out did with their angsty, immersive Lo-Fi Alt-Rock debut single “I’ll Be Fine”.

The defiantly-titled sludgy track has the potential to leave Trap kids and fans of noisy, sludgy Garage Rock alike enamoured. The candid, sourly soulful vibe of the inventively textured track is bang on trend.

The jangly indie guitar notes find just enough room to ring out in the high-energy production which unravels with an intensely emotive sting, especially thanks to the despondently magnetic vocals which will throw you right back to the Alt-90s.

If you never need all too much convincing to delve into 90s & 00s nostalgia, Crossing i’s Dotting t’s’ grungy angsty Alt-Rock track “My Nights End in a Disaster” is sure to get you there.

It’s safe to say that they’ve successfully revived the Emo Rock we all came to love thanks to iconic acts such as Jimmy Eat World, New Found Glory and Simple Plan. But you can expect much more than just assimilation in My Nights end in a Disaster. They’ve put their own Garage Rock kaleidoscopic spin on the style.

Their virtuosic ability to shred mind-altering solos paired with their frenetic tightness of the instrumental arrangement and the confrontational yet comforting vocals are an intoxicating mix which you’ll want to get drunk on time and time again.

jain – kneading: Eccentrically Volatile Alt Garage Rock

Nashville, Tennessee artist jain released their noisy Garage Rock EP ‘the end of June’ at… the end of June. The track which caught our attention was the discord-spilling riotously angsty single ‘kneading’.

The short and distortedly sweet track incorporates elements of Punk, No Wave, Post Hardcore and Indie and throws in some sonically psychedelic lead guitar work to ensure that you’ve never heard anything quite like this eccentrically volatile release before.

In short, kneading is utter chaos and it can even make artists such as Pavement and Daughters seem middle-of-the-road.

Jack Lyon has released their heartbreakingly bitter-sweet Indie Trap Pop single “100 Calls”

Breaking artist Jack Lyon has recently released their third single “100 Calls”. Prepare to fall in love with the heartbreakingly bitter-sweet Indie Trap Pop hit.

Along with the familiar sound of the solid 808s, there are intricately absorbing guitar notes adding to the depth and the emotion of the soundscape which is already intensely evocative thanks to Jack Lyon’s vocals and the humility-soaked lyrics.

100 Calls may be tonally light, but the stark, poignant and all too relatable regret which was projected into the mix hits hard. Perceptibly, Jack Lyon held nothing back in any aspect of the orchestration in 100 Calls. He’s exactly the kind of connectable and expressive artist we need on the airwaves right now. We’re already stoked to hear what comes next.

Pop Punk and Post Punk Converge in Jack Kendrick’s Latest Single “This Is A Call”

As soon as the vocals in Jack Kendrick’s Indie Alt Rock single “This Is A Call” kicked in, my soul immediately knew about it. This Is A Call may be the only track on the airwaves with the ability to simultaneously appease Post Punk aficionados and Pop Punk kids alike.

If Papa Roach and Interpol collaborated, I can imagine it would sound a lot like This Is A Call.

The evocative vocal approach along with the intensely stylistic instrumentals prove to be an incredibly alchemic pairing. As the track progresses, your mind becomes caught between the intricate nuances in the soundscape and the sheer amount of soul, passion and pain which was projected into the awakening single.

Lo-Fi Sludgy Shoegaze and Post Punk, converge in Nikolai Parker’s latest despondently sweet single “June”

Boston, Massachusetts-based Alternative artist Nikolai Parker dropped their latest single “June” on June 16th, we’re already hooked on the sludgy immersive aural despondency.

The progressive soundscape starts with chorally absorbing guitar notes floating high above the steady rattle of the drumbeats, but as June progresses, the momentum picks up and discord starts to bleed through.

In true Shoegaze style, Nikolai Parker’ vocals bleed slightly into the mix. Yet not so much so that the lyrics are lost in the melancholically-tinged soundscape.

If you could imagine what it would sound like if Nirvana and Slowdive collaborated on a record, you’d be able to get a good idea of what is in store when you hit play on June. Aptly. the track is as dark and stormy as the month of June in 2020. Admittedly, after hearing Nikolai Parker’s release, it felt increasingly harder to feel morose.

You’d be hard-pressed finding a more indulgent infusion Shoegaze, Post Punk, Grunge and Lo-Fi Rock from a contemporary artist.
