In Reverse – Ready: Soul-Driven Indie Synthpop

In Reverse

If you could imagine what it would sound like if the 1975 and the Midnight met in the middle while incorporating elements of soul pop in the style of Maroon 5, you’ll get an idea of the stylistic melding which took place for In Reverse to create their latest single ‘Ready’.

The Oslo-based Norwegian Pop band’s approach to Pop may break free of the usual constraints which Pop artists find themselves bound by when they’re writing tracks with commercial potential in mind, but their sound is all the more immersive for it.

The unpredictably progressive electronic pop hit blends elements of contemporary synthpop with hints of indie jangle pop which are palpable in the guitar progressions, yet, Ready still unravels without experimentalism being the main focus. It’s a track which makes sure that the sentiment it was inspired by is harmonically hammered home. It may leave you with a little bit of procrastination guilt, but if any track is going to leave you psyched to attack everything you have been deliberating on, it’s this one.

The ‘Rona may have hindered In Reverse’s plans of aural domination, but on the basis of Ready, we can’t imagine they’ll let anything as small as a global pandemic get in the way.

Ready was released on January 15th, you can check it out for yourselves by heading over to In Reverse’s official website.

evan. – ‘Do It All Again’ (Feat. Xodrew)

https://theevanliu.bandcamp.com/releases

What do you do when you’re 19, going through a breakup, and quarantined at your grandparent’s house with no microphone? Well, you call up your friend and get him to ‘Voice Memo’ you vocals to your new track, of course. Never let circumstances get in the way of creativity.

And with that, evan. wrote and produced ‘Do It All Again’, his debut single, with vocals added by Xodrew – a plaintive, trappy hip hop epic, all deep beats and synth tags, Xodrew’s rapped delivery pushed high, front and centre. Sitting at a slightly-hotter-than-dubstep 150 BPM, ‘Do It All Again’ falls just in the perfect groove between dubstep and drum & bass, but with a melancholic piano hook and a deep, reverby feel that perfectly matches the lyrical subject matter. ‘Do It All Again’ is a mature, intelligent debut from a songwriter who’s clearly got significant potential.

Atlas Finch – Telling You No: Lyrically Raw, Instrumentally Euphoric Indie Dance Pop

https://soundcloud.com/atlasfinch/telling-you-no-1

Some tracks you simply listen to, some tracks consume you as you hit play. Up and coming Electronic Pop artist Atlas Finch’s standout single “Telling You No” falls into the latter category.

In all honesty, I’m not accustomed to finding lyricism which emotionally stings in Electronic music. But Atlas Finch penned a potent serving for Telling You No.

The humbly candid lyrics versed through nuanced Indie Pop style vocals fall into perfect synergy with the energetic yet undemanding Dance Pop beats. By infusing elements of Hip Hop and House into Telling You No, the track definitely isn’t without euphoric appeal. But in its essence, Telling You No is a sublimely soulful Pop mix tinged with an all too resonant and humanistic dose of melancholy.
