Sparkling, luscious R&B with a wistful atmosphere, coming to you from the talented M.I.

Hidden behind sparse cover art, you’re introduced to the luxurious sound of M.I. by a lonely chord being struck, which then calmly gets weaved into a gorgeous, widescreen tapestry of rich and twinkling music. Call it modern soul, call it R&B, call it bursting at the seams with a sense of longing and regret. It’s a song that functions much like an old photograph would: to remind you of days long past, lives not lived and people who’ve long since disappeared. M.I.’s voice, her strongest asset, is on full display here, and it shines. And as soon as the song hits its dramatic finale, you can’t help but be swept up in it.

In short, M.I. makes tunes excellent for staring out a window to.

Kelz TBK – La La La: An Irresistible Offering of Trap

At first, when I first listened to the latest track by the East London based artist Kelz TBK I was conflicted, I was unsure how to transcribe the feeling that he’d orchestrated La La La with.

The tone is ubiquitously lachrymose, yet the vocal delivery is imploring, pounding and brashly, playfully endearing. I was torn. Yet one thing is for sure, this chilled, Trap, Melodic Rap mix is one of the greatest feats to come from the Trap genre in 2017. Kelz TBK is by no means a new contender to the scene, he’s infiltrated the London underground with his infectious sound, and I can only imagine that with his ability to create a sound that grips you like a vice will see him go far within the scene and join other iconic artists such as Migos, Diplo, and Major Lazer in no time on the podium sipping Hennessey. Even if the 420 persuasion is much more of Kelz TBK’s bag, La La La was engineered for smokers who love Trap, if that sounds like you, head on over to SoundCloud now where you can check out his latest track:

SMXKE & DARKBOI’s New Release ‘B@ng’ #POUND

Setting the bar higher for the UK hip-hop scene.

Representing the East London hip-hop scene, #POUND quickly rose to local fame as one of the most interesting new rap acts to be on the lookout for. The group consists of SMXKE, MC DARKBOI as well as producer SUPAWAVE. The former two managed to collaborate together on a new, explosive single titled “B@ng”

One of the most exciting things about this song is that it is arguably the product of two artists who have a very different creative approach. Yet, in spite of their diverse attitude, these two brilliant performers are able to create an astonishing synergy, which truly highlights their talent and vision. On “B@ng”, the pair set out to bounce off each other’s ideas and come up with a song that is packed with amazing melodies and inspirational lyrics that really leave a mark. This song is actually the very first taste of the pair’s upcoming EP, which is currently scheduled for a 2018 release.

Leonie Sherif Releases Slick R&B Track “Deny”

Leonie Sherif follows in the pop-dance traditions of the likes of Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton and Mariah Carey, and if you are going to pick role models they don’t come much bigger than that. And like her icons she weaves slick dance grooves through accessible and sophisticated pop melodies to create music and which in a throwaway world is anything but.

It is the combination of old and new, the match of a certain familiarity with a forward thinking vision that makes this work so well. For every modern electro- beat there is an organic, old school R&B groove, for every pop pulse there is a soulful echo. Not everything has to be about revolution when it comes to creativity, barriers don’t always need kicking down, pop music doesn’t need to undergo unnecessary cross pollination, sometimes it is just enough to nurture what has gone before and give it a modern rethink. Evolution really is the way forward.

A&R Factory Present: FALSE HEADS

Having been hailed by Iggy Pop as one of his favourite bands of the moment, declared “the future of rock n’ roll” by ex-Ramones manager Danny Fields, signed up by The Libertines drummer Gary Powell to his 25 Hour Convenience Store label, given Pete Townsend’s studio to record in, and named as one of their tips for 2017 by both Fred Perry Subculture and This Feeling, it’s fair to say that there’s a hell of a buzz swirling around the young East London trio False Heads right now.

The Independent, NME, Clash Magazine, Q Magazine, Artrocker, Drowned In Sound, BBC 6Music, Radio X, Kerrang Radio (where the band were playlisted), and BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens have also all waded in with support and praise for the trio’s delinquent, punk-driven assault, that finds them caught somewhere between the early grunge of Foo Fighters, the infectious songwriting of Pixies, and the snotty punk attitude of The Buzzcocks.

Following their remarkable ‘Thick Skin’ and ‘Weigh In’ single releases in 2016, False Heads went on to perform at The Roundhouse in London for the Punk Weekender event, played an acclaimed set at Camden Rocks festival, live sessions for BBC Introducing and Radio X, and were even interviewed by The New York Times. Meanwhile their avid fanbase continues to grow as the excitement around the trio builds.

False Heads will now return in 2017 with their ‘Gutter Press’ EP, featuring a string of hard-hitting tracks, including Iggy Pop favourite ‘Slew’, and two stellar new tracks ‘Twenty Nothing’ and ‘Comfort Consumption’.

The new EP delivers five tracks that capture False Heads perfect riot of energetic, leering bawdiness, and set a huge marker for a band whose remarkable rise is seemingly unstoppable. With their frenetic live shows taking on a life of their own, False Heads have also announced their first dates of 2017, with select shows across this February and March.
False Heads ‘Gutter Press’ EP will be released through 25 Hour Convenience Store on March 10th 2017. The band have also partnered with Pledge Music on the new release, with exclusive signed pre-orders on vinyl and CD, along with other merchandise, available from HERE now.
