Island Empire has created the ultimate aural paradox with their upliftingly sedative single “Air Sea Rescue”

Island Empire is an Indie Alternative Electronica duo who borrow elements of 80s Synthwave and Dreampop. But they definitely aren’t a band who can be defined by their influences.

Instead, their sound would be better understood if I alluded to their music by telling you that they created an aural paradox of uplifting sedative music. Especially with their recently released poised and polished single “Air Sea Rescue”.

The London-based artist has successfully dragged Dreampop into the realms of the accessible with” Air Sea Rescue”. The single may be warm and concordant, but there’s also an ample amount of moody gloom lingering between the notes giving the track an incredibly atmospheric feel.

FMFL – Functional Music for Lovers: Electrifyingly Cathartic Dreampop

Functional Music for Lovers is the debut dreampop album from FMFL, if you’re looking for an electrifyingly cathartic mix, you’re in for an absolute treat, also a Theremin… who doesn’t love a Theremin?!

Each of the ten tracks on the album progress with blissfully nostalgic tonality, fluid progression and solid structuring, FMFL knows exactly where he wants his soundscapes to take you and leads you there with his deft command of the synthesiser. Some of the tracks run a little more playfully than the more pensive tracks to the debut album, which gives the album a great diversity and makes it the perfect soundtrack to kick back to. When you get to track number 5 ‘Labyrinth’ on the album, it’s hard for your ear drums not to stand to attention, after you’ve just been treated to ambient dream wave, things take a more industrial turn. Yet even with the heavier tracks the vocals remain to be as sweet as ever- they do one hell of a job drawing you into the transience of the melodies with pitch perfect harmony.

FMFL’s debut album Functional Music for Lovers is scheduled for release on August 8th, 2018, so save the date, and prepare for some of the most fragile, dreamy electronica soundscapes that you’ve checked out this summer.

James Baley – Moonwave: Lucid Lullabies

James Baley is a Dreampop connoisseur, his debut track Moonwave has definitely caught our attention; the lucid and transcendental style is something that all music lovers are going to want to get behind. The Toronto based singer and songwriter is unambiguously blessed with musical talent, his work has been in the public arena since a very young age which has given him a plethora of time to perfect his sound and the ability to convey his emotion through the music.

As a song writer Baley encapsulates the sound behind his spirituality and devotion to his family to send a strong message of divine sensibility and passion behind his lyrics. He takes influence from other strong vocalists such as Bjork, Lauren Hill and Ella Fitzgerald. His latest hit Moonwave speaks of his raw playfulness which projects through his music to create a distinctively atmospheric sound.

Baley has a unique lyrical styling and interesting elemental production which uses complex jarring effects over the vocals, I’m not usually a fan of overly dubbed vocals, but there’s just something so charming about the lyrics when put against such a lucid sound.
