Rumination refracts through the emotive visceralism of Ricky’s alt-electro release, Dreaming

In his latest release, Dreaming, the artist and producer Ricky reached far beyond the reverberations of the moody electronic trend, entrenching his release in piercingly plaintive soul. As one of the most melancholic leftfield electronica tracks to permeate the airwaves in recent years, Dreaming transcends self-indulgence to deliver a raw visceral experience.

As the frenetically syncopated backbeat sonically visualises the tumult of the external world, the dual vocals from Ricky and an arcane-timbered female guest vocalist reflect rumination in the cultivated track, which reaches the epitome of affecting, Every note in Dreaming is a tender extension of vulnerability which entrances you into the emotion as light radiates from the progressions, refracting a sense of salvation that the lyrics yearn for.

Ricky’s roots trace back to Nottingham, where he cut his teeth with the electro-punk indie rave duo Battlecat! between 2007 and 2010, touring extensively and sharing stages with the likes of Hadouken!, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Two Door Cinema Club, Future Islands, and many more. He hit prestigious stages before pausing his output due to family commitments.

Eventually returning to music, he released ‘Pushing Buttons’ in 2021, drawing inspiration from Burial, Bicep, Boards of Canada, and The xx. Early singles caught the attention of BBC Introducing’s Dean Jackson, earning airplay and solid feedback. After grappling with depression and a ten-month hiatus, Ricky has re-emerged with a new EP in the works and plans to bring his live sound to the UK and Europe in early 2025. I know I will be the first in line for a ticket for the live rendition of Dreaming.

Hua-Hsuan Tseng is a Taiwan-born, Los Angeles-based composer and sound designer who makes remarkable soundscapes for film and visual media.

Released as the first single off his soul-calming brand new ten-track ‘Melodic Euphoria: The Lo-Fi Trip‘ album, RandyRan has our thoughtful minds sharply alive with thrilling ideas of conquering all our worries away into the awaiting distance with ‘Dreaming‘.

RandyRan is a more-than-handy lo-fi hip-hop/jazz music producer who returns to our awakened consciousness after his wonderfully electric seven-track ear-warmer called ‘808-Bit State of Mind: Level 1‘ from earlier on in 2021.

We can all find that peaceful place – but it will be a road filled with potholes that need to be navigated skillfully – so that true inner calm may be finally obtained.

Searching for your freedom: Augustus Breeze and Sophie Penman are excellent on ‘Dreaming’

Taken off the new two-track EP ‘Ex Nihilo‘, Augustus Breeze and Sophie Penman combine their electrifying chemistry to wonderfully satisfying results on ‘Dreaming‘.

Sophie Penman is a soulfully sweet singer-songwriter based in Edinburgh, Scotland and is joined on this stunning single by Kamran Afshar aka Augustus Breeze– who is a fellow Edinburgh-based music producer. Together they form a fantastic duo who have recently been awarded the prestigious ‘Track of the Week’ on BBC Introducing Scotland.

This is the splendidly explained story of how some people just don’t make sense when you try and work them out. They are leaving now and you know that you need to move to be truly happy and free yourself. Life comes at you with detours sometimes and you need to be fleet-footed and stay in your own lane, until they want to drive with you again.

Their combination of alluring RnB and soulful Jazz breezes mistily through your curious speakers to catch your sense’s attention, as you breathe in that heartfelt sound that your body has missed.

Her elegant style is matched by a sultry voice that makes your head and neck shake in agreement that is that genuine sound of an underground music goddess. The way she controls her tone is masterful and the groovy bass meshed marvelously with the pure production- puts your mind into a sonic sphere that gives your soul a massive hug.

‘Dreaming‘ from Edinburgh duo Augustus Breeze and Sophie Penman is an excellent single that features so much real soul and stunning vocals, with classy production that will put you in a peaceful but thoughtful mindset.
