Gifted Balance’s ‘Middle of the Night’ is delicately gliding neo-synthetic lo-fi R&B

Detroit based duo Gifted Balance have released ‘Middle of the Night’ – a late-night neo-R&B track.

Eerie but melodically lush, ‘Middle of the Night’ diverges from an initially glitched out introduction to carving right into a ping-ponging vocal line. It’s a polished track, and it glides pretty organically from sombre, lo-fi tones to triumphantly pleasant twinkles and starlit pads – all in a sort of luxury car suspension thanks to the soft texturing and engineering throughout.

‘Middle of the Night’ feels right for the kind of late night asphalt you want to be spinning this track to and there’s some real weight to be had behind this listen. Definitely recommended for any hazy playlists that could do with a bit more ambience and soul behind the curtain.

A shootout of rhymes: Ryn Scott’s new release Execute

I honestly wasn’t expecting such a shootout of rhymes when I hit play on Ryn Scott’s Execute, let alone my laptop speakers clipping out to the heavy beats.

My first thought went to that Slim Shady motif that conquered Hip Hop’s golden 90’s and Dre’s handprint in the piano loops spiraling into a melodic vortex that sucks down the cumulative mass of mainstream rappers we’re so saturated with.

Execute goes beyond those withered stems of rap bars by cultivating a unique sound through a type of storytelling that poeticizes simple but well-structured harmonies for an authentic pure Hip-Hop banger.

If this is the premise, Ryn Scott has a talent ready to bloom.
