Adversity matches the ominous tone of 2021 with their latest single ‘What He About’

‘What He About’ is the latest lyrically led feat of hip hop from up and coming artist, Adversity who can easily match the meter of Eminem while asserting their authenticity into their rap bars.

There may be an element or two of old school in the mix, but the spacey interstellar hit, What He About crash-landed on the airwaves in the new wave trap arena. With confrontational lyrics over a bed of atmospherically layered beats which match the ominous tone of 2021, your entire consciousness will be consumed by this wit-fuelled hard hitter.

SEBASTIAN MĀRCUS broke the monocultural mould with their reverb-drenched genre-defying single ‘PCG’

SEBASTIAN MĀRCUS

SEBASTIAN MĀRCUS took his experimentalism to ethereal new heights with the release of their single ‘PCG’; a reverb-drenched genre-defying feat of electronica which breaks the monocultural mould.

From bilingual sensually phantasmal harmonies to effect-laden ominous non-lexical vocals, SEBASTIAN MĀRCUS well and truly demonstrated their chill-inducing talents in PCG which melds elements of trap, dream pop and ambient electronica to hypnotic effect. It’s well worth putting a sweater on for; you can expect the entirety of your consciousness to be consumed as you listen to the paradoxically chilling and simultaneously lush track.

You’ll have to wait a little longer before you can check out PCG for yourselves. In the meantime, head over to SEBASTIAN MĀRCUS ’SoundCloud.

Datsnell inspires optimism with their dark Alt Rock track ‘Imperfections’

https://soundcloud.com/user-368565296/imperctions?ref=clipboard&p=i&c=1

When you look at the real impact which 2020 has had on music, you’ll have to look far past the absence of live music and look to how artists, such as Datsnell, have stripped back facades to deliver raw and honest intimate emotion, understanding that connection, unity and strength found through music can never be overvalued.

His latest Alt-Rock single, Imperfections, reminds the listener that our obsession with perfection is imperfect within itself and that a few cracks in the surface don’t have to make you feel worthless.

With his inventive sampling of Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator speech falling around Datsnell’s haunted reverberant spoken word bars and piercingly light keys kicking up stunning interludes, the stunning track gently nudges towards optimism while validating the fear, uncertainty and nihilism which we’ve found throughout 2020. Even if you can’t find optimism straight away, you’re sure to find some solace within this deeply compassionate feat of Alt-Rock which melds elements from Hip Hop, Trap, Rock and Electronica.

I Passed Away serves a smorgasbord of 80’s Goth, 90’s Emo and Electro Alt Pop with ‘Brainwave’

I Passed Away

Starting off as a modern hyperpop dance/rock banger, ‘Brainwave’ showcases I Passed Away’s versatility, moving through 80’s goth, 90’s emo, and electro alt-pop disco crossover at the swelling instrumental middle eight breakdown.

There are elements of early 90’s alternative rock around the vocal production, coming across at times like a slightly more mellow Layne Stayley, but overall I Passed Away has a unique and instantly recognisable vocal sound. ‘Brainwave’ is a well-crafted piece, marrying solid, gripping melodies with catchy keyboard hooks, a driving bassline, and clean, crisp production. There are clearly influences of hip hop and ambient artists in ‘Brainwave’ too, along with the more obvious indie and emo tropes, but primarily I Passed Away has crafted a novel, individual, and mature piece of modern dance/pop crossover that bodes well for future releases.

Gangster Rap Meets Dark EDM Trap in Spark I aM’s Standout Single “Eurostep”

Spark I aM’s standout Rap track Eurostep finds the perfect balance between Gangster Hip Hop and Dark EDM Trap. Naturally, the versatility of the track amplifies the commercial potential. Yet, Eurostep, like all of Spark I aM’s tracks are all about the message and resonance.

The Harlem-based up and coming artist infuses the same passion he exudes for mentorship and community youth projects into his music to create inspiringly relatable mixes. All the talent in the world could never replace what artists like Spark I aM bring to the airwaves. Although, in Eurostep, you’ll find plenty of that too.

Their lyrical waxing style may share reminiscences with icons such as Busta Rhymes, but Eurostep is so much more than just an ode to urban nostalgia with the fresh and atmospheric beats and adrenalizing energy.

DANNI VENDETTA – Nobody Around: Indulgently Nihilistic Trap

https://soundcloud.com/danni-vendetta/nobody-around

Earlier this month breaking Trap artist DANNI VENDETTA dropped a 30-second teaser of their upcoming single “Nobody Around”. Naturally, we’ve joined in on the hype around the hotly anticipated release which is due to drop soon.

The indulgently nihilistic tones in Nobody Around affirm that there are very few artists putting out such darkly experimental Trap on the airwaves. This definitely isn’t your average offering of dark or sad Trap. With the inventive use of the vocal reverb, DANNI VENDETTA ensured that his unfuckwithable lyrics were as ominous as possible and the beats were equally as abrasive.

You can check out the teaser from DANNI VENDETTA’s upcoming single Nobody Around for yourselves by heading over to SoundCloud.

You can also get an impression of what’s to come checking out their previously released mixes. His latest single YUdodat didn’t get over 40k streams in under a month on SoundCloud alone for no reason.

Yung Catboii – LONG TIME: Viral-Worthy Dark Trap

https://youtu.be/boLXYeVzmTQ

With so many up and coming Trap artists battling for recognition in the clouded SoundCloud pool, it can be hard for the visionary artists to stand out. Yet, Yung Catboii certainly didn’t struggle with his latest single “LONG TIME” which dropped on December 27th with a little help from producer IMMORTAL. Yet, when a track is so resonant, open, and reflective of the artist’s journey through escapism and apathy the magic was already there.

There’s no disputing that LONG TIME is a dark track, and Trap artists have been under fire recently for making their tracks about getting wasted – yet, is there any more poignant depiction of our modern reality? N.W.A versed about police brutality, but for contemporary artists who are trying to shift the existential dread there’s no more apt subject to write about.

Pedro P – Darkhaart 1.0: Ahead of the Curve Dark Trap

Up and coming Trap artist Pedro P has recently released his 2018 EP ‘Darkhaart 1.0’ following the release of his debut album ‘The Warm Up’. It’s safe to say he definitely has warmed up after his first release, his style is bang on trend and won’t fail to hook fans who favour the vibe of excess vocal effects over a dark and tormented beat. There’s an electric energy to each of the tracks on the four tracks on the EP. Yet amongst the heavy reverb on the vocals in the bridge, Pedro P still shines through with commandingly fluid Grime Rap bars to allow the full weight of the tracks to hit you. The progressive style of the tracks remains as a constant throughout the EP which sits at the perfect pace for you to vibe out to.
