Greg Tripure – Calling Out (Stars): An Expansively Raw Rock Release for the Era of Disconnection

Greg Tripure’s standout single, Calling Out (Stars), from his debut solo LP, Stranger in This World, lands like a meteor shower; it’s an anthemic cry into the void of despondency that sears its way into the soul. He may wear his Buckley influences on his vocal cords, but the rest of the track’s anatomy is entirely Tripure’s own viscerally wild creation.

For the past 20 years, Tripure has been the unsung hero in the indie touring scene,  but as the world slowed down in 2018 and Covid pushed pause on live music, Tripure retreated into the depths of his creative well and emerged with a cache of songs crafted for his own voice; Calling Out (Stars) is the fiery result of that introspection.

Recorded at 4:10 Studios in Corydon, IN, with the deft touch of Jordan Bailey, the single is a masterclass in balancing anthemics and intimacy. The production is thunderous enough to paralyse, yet the lead guitar work and Tripure’s raw, evocative vocals keep you grounded in the emotional reality of the track. Tripure sings like a man possessed, each note a plea, a whisper, a roar, pulling you into his orbit, inviting you to be equally as open with your emotions in painfully honest reflection.

Calling Out (Stars) is for the outliers, the dreamers, the ones lost in the vast landscape of modern life, searching for connection. If you’ve ever felt that ache, that yearning, prepare to feel whole when you press play.

Fans of City and Colour, Neil Young, and Jeff Buckley, take note: Greg Tripure has arrived, and with Calling Out (Stars), he’s making sure you’ll never forget it.

The Stranger in This World LP is now available to stream on Spotify.

Chris Hobart has dropped his single Wolf Pack: Synth Indie Rock at it’s finest

Up and coming artist Chris Hobart has dropped his single ‘Wolf Pack’ embracing the wholesome sound of Synth Indie Rock, it’s a masterpiece.

An impactful instrumentation pulses through this piece, that loud bang on the drum, using the synthesizer to create that catchy melody and adding in humming and a chant, giving it a more powerful meaning.

The way the rhythm is changed from the beginning, middle and end keeps you listening. Towards the halfway point, is where the Indie Rock elements take their lead, the loud high-pitched riffs on the guitar, the clash on the drums but still keeping that same synthesized beat but lowering the volume on it so it gently collides alongside the rest.

Chris creates a feeling of suspense through his vocal ranges, keeping it rather flat in places but hitting them high notes perfectly, having a rather silvery tone when it comes to his voice and wide array of pitches

This one is one that will be listened to by many and will definitely be on repeat, so be sure to check this one out.

All Hail To The King

Any artist who describes themselves as the result of  Blink 182 having a lovechild with Eminem and Lady Gaga’s backup dancers has got to be worth checking out and when you do you will realise that as descriptions go, it isn’t too bad.  Part quirky pop, part alternative hip-hop and part goofing around, King Dylan’s rap-rock hybrid does nothing less than celebrates life and just oozes positive vibes. It flies in the face of criticism, ignores the detractors, faces down jealousy and reminds us that the only way to live your own life is for yourself.

It takes an Eminem beat and a bounce but stacks it with whimsical, Day-Glo pop, it is celebratory and pulsing with positivity. Already big on the Calgary scene, King Dylan is the sound of life affirming pop, it is both serious and celebratory and even on the strength of this one song, though checking out his back catalogue is highly recommended, he has a great career ahead of him.

A&R Factory Present: Wild Rivers

Wild Rivers is a young, up-and-coming alternative Folk band from Toronto, formed out of the Kingston-based duo that was Devan & Khalid. Since hitting the Toronto music scene, the band has made great leaps and bounds – from being voted Toronto’s Best New Artist in the 2015 CBC Searchlight contest, to gaining regular National Radio airplay, and landing opening slots for some of Canada’s greatest artists, such as Great Lake Swimmers, Cowboy Junkies, and The Wooden Sky.

In the fall of 2015, the band expanded from a duo to a four piece, simultaneously developing their sound, which coincided with the production and recording of their debut album. Their first two singles quickly gained over 100K SoundCloud plays, and features on some of Spotify’s top playlists have earned them 100K+ plays on the singles alone.

On April 16th, Wild Rivers celebrated the much anticipated release of their self-titled debut album with a sold out show at Toronto’s Adelaide Hall. You can stream/download their album everywhere now on Spotify, Apple Music, or at www.wildriversmusic.com. Wild Rivers is Khalid Yassein, Devan Glover, Ben Labenski, and Andrew Oliver. Keep an eye on this band, as they are poised for great things in 2016!
