Up and coming Electronica artist OLD PUP has recently dropped their latest EP “New Tricks” and shared with the airwaves a potent amount of aural serenity.

The perfect introduction to the artist and producer’s slightly Lo-Fi, infinitely cathartic style is the standout track “FANTASi” which unravels as a light, spacey, downtempo feat of instrumental Hip Hop and Ambient House.

If you’re looking for artists offering trippy lucid vibes to add to your playlists, you won’t go far wrong with the light, warm tones found in the multilayers of OLD PUP’s deftly smooth mixes. They may be fresh from their inception, but evidently, that hasn’t prevented them from putting out fresh stylistic mixes.

BisonBison Release Their Latest Ambiently Rhythmic Electronica Single “Expanded”

Ahead of the release of their debut album “Hover”, up and coming Electronica artist BisonBison have dropped the perfect teaser with their ethereally ambient single “Expanded” which was released on October 24th.

Expanded finds an enthralling balance between New Age rhythms and contemporary Electronica production which allows the single to unfold as accessibly familiar whilst immersing you in a pioneeringly captivating mix.

With a prelude which shares reminiscence with Ramin Djawadi’s more melodious scores leading into organically contorted meandering Eastern rhythms, the fluidity of the soundscape in Expanded is enough to allow you to feel as though you’ve been separated from your bones.

The vocals also play a heavy hand in transforming Expanded from a cathartically arrestive single into one which will stay with you for long after it has faded out.

KirdA – Sunsets: Because Who Doesn’t Love Folkish Chill Hop?

Emerging Indie Folk artist KirdA has just released his transiently stunning new EP ‘Endless Summer’. It took listening to one track to decide that this type of soundscape is exactly where the future of music lies.

Contained within the intricate masterpiece of a release is the standout track Sunsets which bowled me over before the first verse had even ran through. If you’re lucky enough to be one of those people that gets goose bumps from listening to a resonantly blissful track, you’re in for one hell of a prickly treat. The resonance contained within the Indie Folk track reverberates through you thanks to the Chill Hop vibe that washes over the entire track. Someone should have told the Artic Monkey’s that this is how you create a genre mash of an album. KirdA has all the suave style of a Trap Artist but boasts the sweet sensibility of an acoustic Indie artist. It’s hard not to fall in love with the narrative lyrics, the tentative versing and everything KirdA puts into the genius orchestration of his stylised sound.

May The Sneaky Fourth be with you!

Bands which play with the musical format of the modern pop song are always the most interesting. We have been making music using the same instruments for the last 60 years and with the exception of developments in synths and sampling, little has changed in the basic tools we use to do so. But there have been options available going back much further in time, why shouldn’t instruments more associated with the classical and the orchestral be brought into the pop picture.

The Sneaky Fourth have already worked this out and they use the standard, finger-picked acoustic guitar as well as the less expected cello and double bass to build subtle and supple folk meets classical meets pop music. Without You is a brilliant textural blend of gently sweeping cello and pulsing organic bass lines under pinning guitar lines which move from dexterous picking to vibrant strumming. The result is a glorious new direction for pop, if indeed we can even limit it with such a label.

Bayou Releases Experimental Ambient Track “Dream”

Bayou is a purveyor of experimental electronic music with a lush, textural twist. “Dream”, as the title might very well imply, really has a very cool otherworldly feel that makes me think of genres such as shoegaze or post-rock, albeit with a more electronic-centric production. The music makes me think of forward-thinking performers such as Flying Lotus or John Hopkins, also very well-known for their textures and intelligent production ideas.

The guitar tones are heavily inspired by funk and jazz, creating a bit of a “fusion” feel and adding a lot of groove to the track. This makes for a very interesting contrast between the introspective background textures, and the more up-front melodies!

 

Joffery Hollsworth set out to release a brand new song titled “Morning Fog”

Joffery Hollsworth is an artist with a truly unique approach to his blend of music.

Recently, he set out to release a brand new song titled “Morning Fog”. This is a song that showcases the artist’s full range of abilities, as well as his great vocal range and lyrics-writing skills. The songs blurs the lines between hip-hop, pop and R&B, going for a crisp and punchy production value.

This song has a very upbeat, yet smooth drum groove, which blends in really well with the song’s melodies and themes. Joffery’s voice is warm, direct and expressive, with a truly old school feel that echoes the golden age of the hip-hop genre.

All in all, this is not just a great song that appeals to fans of hip-hop: this track has a great laid-back attitude that would appeal to and of all kinds of music. I can certainly see myself blasting this loud when driving in the sunshine this summer!

Dead Sullivan release indie lo-fi track ‘Sever’

Have you ever enjoyed a certain type of music with the specific intention of passively listening?  Need something to hum along while you focus on your daily monotonies and responsibilities? Dead Sullivan’s Sever is just the song for you.

Are there cute, imagery-laden lyrics hiding under a blanket of soft guitars in this song? Yes, but what’s more readily in the foreground are crinkling percussive bits and page turning samples that provide the illusion that the song is blossoming in the background of its own official recording. If that’s not a unique approach, I don’t know what is. Sever is aptly named as it seems to be gently removed from the listener enough to alter their mood and help them find a drowsy contentment without having to engage much in actually listening. This passive pop leaves so much to be discovered upon placing a headphone in one ear and another in the ear of a good friend to explore together.

Dead Sullivan proves inventive and evocative on this track. It has its own listening scene built into itself and seems perfect for so many specific moments of the day that there’s little excuse not to have it on a readily available playlist.

A&R Factory Present: Fake Sibling

FAKE SIBLING are three Melbourne-based musicians – Adam Beath, Dave Gillan and Sophie Officer, set to debut their single ‘Bring Me Here’ on Friday 17th February. This marks the first single release from their upcoming album, which the trio are planning and currently writing for, set to be released in 2018.

With hints of, The XX, Aurora and London Grammar, ‘Bring Me Here’ is an understated track with an electronic chill accent. Sophie’s vocals are hauntingly beautiful and create a hypnotic pulse throughout the song, which gently builds and creates a well-rounded and luminous sound, polished with clear and precise production.

Sophie captures the moment in a psychedelic ambience, creating a mystical illusion through a hollow attitude, essentially bringing the magic into reality. The sturdy beat of the drums collides quickly with the philanthropic core of Sophie’s silk like vocals, portraying a jungle atmosphere in the track. There are elements of a predatorily manner, the inevitable profound emotions catching up with her, “You bring me here/And run away”. Swinging away from the darkness, Sophie’s poignant voice reveals a reverie in the track, ultimately portraying a beautiful aesthetic illusion.

The eerie undertones that follow the darkness of the track is what makes the song so spectacular. An outstanding combination of sensual vocals with the fast-paced, experimental rhythm brings Fake Sibling forward to success within the electronic underground scene. The most promising aspect of ‘Bring Me Here’ is the striking anonymous presence that materializes with Sophie’s velvet articulation.

With 20+ years of live performance and studio experience between band members Sophie and Dave and third member Adam’s experiences as a producer and successful sound engineer, FAKE SIBLING are currently rehearsing for two live performance sets. One being an intimate acoustic set and the second a full, live band performance.

Coming together initially to discuss their future music plans, FAKE SIBLING went on to write and record their first finished track in four hours. With access to Adam’s studio, FAKE SIBLING are enamoured and addicted to writing new music. Continually sharing new ideas and songs, they’re able to produce even the smallest ideas in-house which is a great omen to the upcoming debut album.
Sophie recalls,  “When your band members create a zen den of wonder so you feel  comfortable, it’s pretty wonderful!”

‘Bring Me Here’ was almost lost in the digital wasteland after being 70% complete and still not capturing the sound they envisioned, but FAKE SIBLING pursued. Stripping it back, they re-wrote and recorded the track multiple times and in the end it was mixed from scratch by Adam. Their writing process varies and is innate to the band’s relationship with each other. Each member brings their individual sonic signature to the track, and their dedication to sonic perfection will put FAKE SIBLING amongst 2017’s artists to watch.
