After checking out OVVLS at this year’s Across the Threshold festival (where they absolutely stole the show) in Liverpool, I’m absolutely delighted to hear that the duo has created yet another dark and twisted melodic weaving of synth-driven alchemy.
The infectiously catchy lyrical narrative tells a pensive tale of addiction, ironically right from the first verse you’re absolutely hooked. Whilst OVVL’s style is usually decadent, and resoundingly macabre, their latest single LESS THAN PURE was overwhelmingly sobering. Usually, you don’t get to hear a lot of soul in Electronica, yet, thanks to OVVL’s authentically raw offering to the genre you’re treated to momentous offerings of perfectly styled melancholy. What packs even more essence into the duo’s sound is their choice to use an acoustic drum kit to lay down the rhythm of their tracks. No 808’s to be found here.
You can check out OVVL’s latest music from September 21st via Spotify, in the meantime head over and check out some of their earlier releases – you can’t go far wrong with ‘Mind Leeches’ or ‘Pain is Beauty’.
