I can’t remember the last time I ever felt so melancholic listening to a song that wasn’t by Joy Division, Daughter, or London Grammar. Somehow SLR knows exactly how to pull at your heartstrings with their excruciatingly overwhelming progressions of synthy haunting sound. With the track paired against their official video I’m not even ashamed to say it, I shed a tear. Their ethereal Ambient Pop Electro sound created a chilling aura around the entire track from start to finish and the range of vocals will summon the same pensively as those from Hannah Reid or Florence Welsh.
The lyrics to If You Leave Me may not be overwhelmingly immersive or complex, but there’s definitely something about the use of the word ‘sadness’ which will bring you right down into the depths of despair with the track. So grab some tissues and if you’re brave enough head on over to YouTube where you can catch the viscerally staggering official music video to If You Leave Me.
