I can say with all certainty that no Psychedelic track has ever hit me with such a weighted punch of melancholy as Purple Corporation’s latest single Underwater Blues. Frankly, it’s stunning, and may just be the purest installation of transcendentally psychedelic catharsis you’re likely to be treated to this year.
Tearing apart the elements almost seems blasphemous thanks to the alchemy created by the stabbing bassline cuts through the bluesy guitars and brass to create a lucidly biting progression. I’m not sure if there has ever been a track released to appeal to both Psychedelic fans and Blues fans simultaneously, if not Purple Corporation have made history.
Sure, there have been genre-mashes, yet Purple Corporation approach their sound with such a synergetic prowess you’ll be wondering why the soundscape hasn’t been composed before. The absolute cherry on the cake to Underwater Blues has to be the vocals, with a Post-Punk inclination the vocalist apathetically verses the poetically poised lyrics which don’t need much encouragement to resonate.
