The first few notes to Mr Metrónomo’s latest single will fool you into thinking you’re in store for more of a dreamscape than a soundscape. Then the heavily distorted guitars kick in and provide the backbone to the beat of “Chillin Like a Villain”.
Yet, as innovative as the Rock/Hip Hop instrumentals to the single are, when Mr Metrónomo kicks into his lyrical flow it will be hard to tear yourself away from the Rap delivery. To define the introspection in the lyricism as sharp almost feels like an understatement.
Yet, the Rock-style vocals which kicked in towards the end of the single didn’t quite match up to what was offered lyrically through the rest of Chillin Like a Villain. The almost spoken word delivery of the lyrics allowed them to resonate as pure poetry, yet that was lost as the vocals switched from the charismatically playful delivery. But that’s not to say we’re not infinitely excited by the potential of the up and coming artist.
