“A Dark Red Sky” is the latest single from the up and coming archaically arresting female-fronted collective Meteor Street. Their rhythmically succinct approach to Rock has a Psychobilly edge yet the grinding progressions of the guitar and bass kept the sound firmly in the Rock genre. Whilst the LA-based trio’s soundscapes may carry a reminiscence to artists such as Creepshow, Tiger Army and Hillbilly Moon Explosion the lyricism sets them apart from their more macabre counterparts. Through the lyrics you’re treated to immersive imagery which leaves you even more enamoured by Meteor Street’s unapologetically sultry approach to sound. As much as I loved A Dark Red Sky, it was easy to feel that they were playing it safe with the sound by assimilating what we’ve come to know and love. I’d love to find more authenticity within their later releases sound. Yet, for anyone looking for a revival of the old Rock rhythms, you’re in for a treat.
