I was starting to wonder whether guitar music had truly died a death, but thankfully I stumbled across MASTOIDS latest track Blind just in time before my hope for guitar-driven sound dissipated forever.
The Sacramento, Californian based powerhouse collective’s punchy approach to Alternative Rock is absolutely riddled with thrashing yet concordant rhythm curtesy of the heavily distorted guitars. There’s some elements of Pop Punk riddled into the mix, but the crashing, cataclysmically beautiful riffs bring the sound into a brand-new arena. I can’t even imagine how energetic and insanely ferocious MASTOIDS would be live. The vocals on the track somehow seem to be angsty yet cute all at the same time as they flirt with that iconic fractured vocal style as heard in bands Blink 182. But lets be honest the instrumentals are slicker and heavier than Blink 182 could have ever dreamed of creating.
Can you tell that the track has got me excited yet?
If you’re a fan of bands such as Fidlar, Wavves, Thee Oh Sees and Lower Than Atlantis, I can absolutely guarantee you’ll adore the pretty Lo Fi production of Blind.
