As a massive Pulp fan, I found it hard to see who could get away with a track called Common People, but Marc Baker absolutely nailed it with his funk addled approach to Synth Pop.
His 80’s inspired, dreamy synth mix Common People was a little hard not to fall in love with as the track unfolds waves of nostalgia hit you at the same time as the recognition that Marc is more than just your average 80’s revival artist. The composition of his latest track which was brought out May 2018 may share the essence with some of the eighties most iconic synth bands, yet his style is irrefutably his own.
The solid bassline kept a steady rhythm from start to finish, the track progression used both digital and acoustic sound to create a soundscape that you really can’t fault. There are swathes of synth energy which swirl around the Jangle Pop guitars and all that’s without mentioning Marc Baker’s vocals which exude a high-vibe energy whilst keeping the reminiscence of artists such as New Order, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell and Human League.
