Any Hip Hop track dark enough to instil actual ominous fear as it progresses is always going to be welcome on our radar. The title to up and coming recording artist Loosh’s latest single “the Devil and Guns” may seem dark, but it still did very little to prepare me for what his experimental take on EDM Hip Hop offers.
The delivery of the lyricism (which can only be described as spoken word poetry) is impossibly mesmeric, the versing remains calm which may not work with most Hip Hop tracks, but Loosh definitely isn’t your average Hip Hop artist. Instead of using anger to convey the existentialism in the lyrics, the Brighton-based artist uses something far more effective; the versing resonates like pre-emptive contempt to make the Devil and Guns even more chill-inducing. The track fading out on a sadistic laugh was nothing short than genius. Loosh’s latest single may just be the aural equivalent of American Psycho, and I don’t think that there is any praise higher than that.
