As soon as you hit play on the Lo Rays debut single Optional you’re instantly greeted by some of the strongest, visceral, overwhelmingly powerful vocals that you will have heard from the Pop Rock genre. As you reach the concluding verses you’re treated by unrestrained screams from a vocalist who would give Brody Dalle a run for her money. it’s safe to say that Lo Rays’ vocalist has got a set of lungs on her, put that with the angst-fuelled lyrics and Optional comes to life with a resonantly antagonistic bite. The instrumental arrangements and the perfect polished production of the track further amplify the talent of Lo Rays who audibly already have a radio ready sound with their jangly, intricate popping guitar progressions. As instrumental melodies go, they don’t get punchier, yet the high-octane instrumental synergy is no match for the vocals which stands reverberantly above the rest of the mix.
