I can’t remember the last time I checked out a Hip Hop track that took so long to kick in, the momentum that was created by the extended prelude was nothing short of genius after you’re left itching to the lyricism to hit you. When Kido Kolour’s Rap vocals kicked in, it’s safe to say I wasn’t disappointed. His enigmatically seamless flow was made even sweeter by his clever use of metaphors which he uses to incite raw emotion which alludes to his experience with depression.
Yet Sand Castles is one of the most uplifting tracks I’ve heard, there’s no revelling in apathy or glossing over the cracks with self-aggrandized pomposity. Kido Kolour’s realist approach to sound has genuinely made me revaluate the way I see the Hip Hop scene, whilst everyone else is out trying to create ‘dope’ beats, Kido Kolour is composing gritty emotional Hip Hop, that you know, makes you actually feel real human emotion.
