“Hey Baby” is the latest single to be released from the Alt Indie outfit JEPH, the Isle of Wight-based band may describe themselves as beige, yet, it’s not all too often that we encounter a sound as viscerally alive and quintessentially attitudinal as their Punk-infused genre-defying aural alchemy.
As I listened to Hey Baby unfold I was simultaneously captivated by the jangling progressions of the electric guitar which went beyond what you’d come to expect from an up and coming artist combined with the sweet yet expressive vocal style. The instrumental arrangements may carry a slight soft Grunge vibe, yet JEPH replaced angst with a twinge of romantic melody and the results speak for themselves. Wolf Alice may have just grabbed themselves the Mercury Prize for their colossal sound, yet, JEPH provided a stripped back sugared alternative which is just as palatable.
