“Caught in the System” is just one of the soberingly resounding singles found on up and coming Hip Hop Rap artist JB’s debut EP “Progression”.
While each of the tracks on the EP pack an emotive punch, there is no better introduction to JB’s approach to downtempo Hip Hop than Caught in the System. There are no prizes for guessing what the track is about. But JB’s candid approach to music is one of the most magnetic aspects which you’ll find in his soundscapes – they don’t just skirt around the issues of superficiality.
Rather than romanticising the ‘thug life’ JB has gone in the opposite direction with his lyrically poignant and melodically rich single. Even though the duration of the track is short, that doesn’t detract from the long-lasting impression it will leave on you.
The airwaves may be in no short supply of melancholically mused music, but Caught in the System transcends the self-pity and gives an emotive narrative on contemporary injustice.
