There are plenty of Trap artists giving the genre a bad name right now, thankfully artists such as JaeBoy are here to restore the faith by putting out infectiously experimental and expressive tracks.
The up and coming Texas-based artist put plenty of reverberant bass behind his beats with his debut single “Moonset” which unfolds through a multi-layered construction with plenty of texture between the bass, the rattle and snare of the 808s and the haunting layers of Jazz Hip Hop. But as impressive as the beat is, it is with his vocal ability that JaeBoy takes his single to the next level. After perfecting the art of beatboxing JaeBoy made light work of the verses in Moonset. There’s also a lot to be said about the intellectual, yet playfully engaging lyricism which is on offer in Moonset.
If anyone is wondering how to create a contemporary Hip Hop hit, press play on Moonset and take notes.
