“Famous” is just one of the singles found in up and coming Rap artist Jay September’s latest album “Elevators” and I’m sure it won’t be the only one which will hit like an absolute tonne of bricks.
Plenty of Hip Hop & Rap artists allude to contemporary issues with their tracks, but Jay September’s approach will quite literally drown you in empathy. The striking narrative forces you to consider the darker side of ‘Instagram fame’. Perhaps the most powerful aspect of the track is Jay September’s ability to place himself in the mindset of a young woman searching for stability and validity in the 21st century without a hint of prejudice.
Extended tracks aren’t usually a common feature in Rap – especially ones which don’t rely on lyrical repetition, but Jay September proves just how powerful Hip Hop can be when you truly invest in the narrative and throw poignantly bruising poetry into the mix.
