“Killmonger” is the experimentally intriguing offering of Trap from up and coming Hip Hop artist GR3YWXLF. Of all the music genres, the one which never tends to exude much distinction is Trap, yet with Killmonger, the tinny 808s and vocal reverb were put on the back burner, and you’re treated to infusions of Jazz, Ska, and Funk in this genre-mashing delight of a track.
The lyrics also brought plenty of distinctive appeal to Killmonger, with GR3YWXLF’s steady flow and lyrical ingenuity combined, once you’re hooked into the lyrics, there’s no unhooking yourself until the track has faded out. However, it felt fairly criminal that Killmonger only ran through for just under 2 minutes and there was no warning that the soundscape was about to leave you in the confusion of silence as you tried to wrap your head around the jazzy, soulful, eccentric track which had just unfolded.
