You weren’t expecting anything ordinary from an act titled Five Points Kinky, were you? Good. Their latest single Obstacle braves new aural frontiers in their almost twee Art Rock Pop sound; it’s quite rare that you will stumble across a track as melodic yet eclectic as Obstacle. The Californian based outfit is comprised of bassist & singer Van Michael who decided to keep his musical ventures and team up with his younger brother who turned out to be the perfect vocalist for the project with his succinctly mellow vocal approach that you just can’t help falling a little bit in love with.
In terms of pinpointing genre, well, who knows, their prodigal approach to sound incorporates elements of Jazz Pop & Rock to create a blissfully soulful composition which is brought to life by the third member of the collective; guitarist Zack Oritz. With such a palpable synergy between the band, I have no doubt that they will gain the notoriety they deserve in no time at all.
